Veronica Poland Obituary

Veronica Susan Poland

May 27, 1941 - December 30, 2023

Veronica "Ronnie" Susan Knight Pressley Poland, formerly of Clarksburg, Maryland passed away peacefully on December 30, 2023, at the Country House Memory Care Community in Cumberland, Maryland with family by her side.

Born on May 27, 1941, to the late Donald W. Knight, Sr. and Veronica A. Davis Knight in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the oldest of four children. Ronnie was fortunate to live her early years surrounded by many aunts, uncles and cousins in "Philly" and her relationships with her family members never waned. Her father's career in the U.S. Navy took them to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and eventually to Rockville, Maryland where Ronnie graduated from Wheaton High School in 1959. She married her high-school sweetheart the late Roger J. Pressley on August 15, 1959. She met her second husband, the late B. Wayne Poland while working at Bechtel Power Corporation, they were married on November 10, 1979.

Ronnie is survived by her children Laura Skidmore (Dan) of Surprise, Arizona, Karen Lesko (DJ) of LaVale, Maryland and William Poland of Leesburg, Virginia. Ronnie also leaves behind to cherish her memory her grandchildren: Nathan Hunter, Brandy Werner, Jenna Lesko, Lanie Hagelberger, Julie Lambright, Amber Wassam and Krista Poland; her great-grandchildren: Faith and Shawn Hunter, Cole Gracie, Ivy Hagelberger and Layla Lambright. Ronnie is survived by her sister, Linda Capo (Angelo) of Manassas, Virginia and brother

Donald W. Knight, Jr. (Jacque) of Georgia. She is predeceased by her brother Lawrence P. Knight.

Ronnie loved traveling and reading but she mostly loved being surrounded by family and friends and was happiest dancing and having a good time. She will be remembered by her childhood friend Kathleen "Katzy" Danford and her good friend Christine Fletcher.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Country House in Cumberland, Maryland and UPMC Western Maryland Hospice for their excellent care and compassion for Ronnie and her family.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872. From 10:00 until 11:00 am, a Catholic Prayer service will begin at 11:00. Interment will immediately follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ronnie's name to the UPMC Western Maryland Hospice, 1050 W. Industrial Blvd, Suite 19, Cumberland, MD 21502.

Ronnie brought such a great light to the world that it will remain shining long after she is gone. Dr. Seuss said: Don´t cry because it is over, smile because it happened. Ronnie will be missed and remembered with joy.

I knew Wayne and Ronnie from working at Bechtel. It was always a pleasure to talk with them. May God take them both in his arms and reunite them. Sending sympathy to their family.
