Dan was a good fiend. He was a loyal husband and a giving person. He made time for every one. My deepest sympathy to his family. Jim Wallace

Dan was one our most loyal fans at our luncheon gigs at the Hartland Senior Center. He would listen intently, and when we finished, he would 'make the rounds' thanking the Dudes, and expressing his appreciation for playing our genre of music. Dan always thanked me last, as I remained sitting at the piano - he would reach across the music rack and offer his handshake while sporting a warm and satisfied smile. While withdrawing his hand, he always told me how much he appreciated our playing.
Twice, we had the privilege of playing for Dan while he was a patient at St. Joe's Hospital in Ann Arbor. The hospital has a department called, "Healing Arts", through which artists in various disciplines can arrange to 'entertain' the patients. So, I would call the nurse's station and arrange for Dan to be transported, at a predetermined time, to the huge lobby where the hospital management had installed a 7' Yamaha concert grand piano - such a beautiful instrument it is, with a depth of tone that carries through the various 'caverns' of the lobby. .
At the appointed time, Dan and his entourage would appear in the gathering space in the lobby - always accompanied by a 'chauffeur' to push his hospital bed, a nurse, a respiratory therapist, and once by a doctor. Wheelchair patients would also attend, along with their attendants, and a nice sized crowd of folks seemed to enjoy our music.
All of us felt very close to Dan, especially during our frequent 'non-musical' visits to buoy him up. Oh, sure, he would sleep occasionally, but when his eyes were open, he often had 'that' familiar glint in them. Who knows, he may have been listening all the time with his eyes closed, but couldn't communicate his appreciation. To a man, we grew to love Dan, and we will never forget his warm appreciative smile.
Joining me in this tribute to Dan are: Larry Detter, Dave Bubolz, Frank Surhigh, George White, Bill Garcia, and Jim Page, all members of my band, "Joe and the Dudes". Also, accompanying us to visit Dan most every time is Terry Wingblad, one of Dan's dearest friends.
For Dan: May God rest his soul.
Respectfully submitted, by Joe Kleiner, pianist and leader of "Joe and the Dudes".

Dan was always the most kind, gentle man towards me. When Phil and I were kids he was always willing to help if something was broken, like weld a bike back together. I remember that he loved to fish too. The old 30's Chrysler in the garage was always something that I remember as a kid, he would cruise it around once in a while with somebody the rumble seat. When we (Phil, Eric, Dan and I) wrecked his and Karens' car,( 15 years old by the way, and no drivers license) I had to come face to face with both of them, and I will never forget that they were both still so sweet to me, even though we had just destroyed their car, something that most people would lose their temper with, but no, just amazing patience for others. Dan you will be missed, your spirit will live forever!
In Christ,

A great softball player who also was a fan of the game. He and my father played many years beyond their prime for HMC in the church league.
