MARIE ALLISON Obituary

Marie Allison, our cherished mother and grandmother, died on Monday, April 2, 2012. Born April 25, 1923 in Batesville, Arkansas, she and her mother moved to Merced, California in 1935. They relocated to Planada, and she attended LeGrand High School and 4C's Business College in Fresno. She married our dad, Dick Allison, in January of 1942 while he was stationed at Fort Ord. He died in June 2001 six months before their 60th wedding anniversary. A strong, beautiful, intelligent, giving woman, she was the light of our family. Despite enduring the loss of two children (Ricky at 14 months in 1943 and Nancy at 22 in 1968), she still found joy in life. People who knew her well will remember her cooking and singing, usually at the same time. Always available to be a room mother, chaperone, group leader, chauffeur, friend - even as she worked full time - we look back in awe at the way she lived her life. We would like to express our eternal gratitude to everyone at Elim Gardens and Somerford Place. Alzheimers' caregivers are angels on earth, and there aren't enough words to adequately thank them. She leaves behind her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and John Reed and Cinda and Joe Rossi; her grandson, Duncan Moyer; and her much-loved nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service for Marie will be held at Jay Chapel on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. with interment following at Arbor Vitae Cemetery. Remembrances may be made in Marie's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011; or St. Agnes Hospice, 6729 N. Willow, #103, Fresno, Ca. 93710. I only recently met Marie and Cinda in the last month or so, since my mom Benny had moved to Somerford. My impression of Marie was that she was a strong, beautiful and caring woman. She would sit very erect in her wheelchair, calmly observing all that was going on around her, sometimes cradling a little baby doll in her arms. And Cinda has been the most devoted daughter... at her mom's side every evening, helping feed and care for her. My mom is in a similar stage of the disease, and I only hope that she and I can enjoy the times ahead together, just as Cinda and Marie did. May her family's wonderful memories of Marie keep her with them forever.
