My deepest sympathy goes out to all of Marty's family and friends. We lost one of the "good guys"...I got to know him, when I worked in Records, he was friendly, cheerful, and truely, a nice guy. I also had a lot of respect for him, as an Officer, he will be missed...

To the Marty West family please accept my deepest condolences on your loss. Marty thank you for your years of public service. You made Fresno and Oakdale communities a safer place for all of us to live in. You served and protected and you did it well. I first met Marty back in the summer of 1979 working patrol on the Fresno westside. Marty in my option was a very likable man with a calming personality. He never had anything bad to say about anyone and always greeted you with that famous smile of his. He treated everyone he contacted with respect and fairness. I was fortunate to speak with Marty and exchange pleasantries a few months back. Marty was the same man I knew from years back. I miss you Marty and may the Lord open the gates to his kingdom and hold you in his embrace.

Marty was a great example to his peers as an active member of the Fresno Cycling Club. He is my age and was in much better physical condition which was evident especially in the hills. He was friendly to everyone and respectful as well. He often told of stories and anecdotes of his experiences working for the FPD over lunch at the end of a ride. He possessed a thoughtful disposition balanced with a deep appreciation for humor. His attitude was always optimistic and he will be missed. I feel fortunate to have met him and to have shared some riding time with him.
