Reedley, California - Neta was born in Stockton, California to Oklahoma natives Bunt and Goldie Reed. After graduation from Fresno State, she landed her first teaching job at Pacific Union then on to Navelencia Jr. High where she completed thirty-six years in education. Teaching young, Jr. high students was a calling for Neta.
Neta married Michael Newkirk in July, 1980. In 1983, the sunshine in her heart was borne with the birth of her only child.
Neta had profound faith in her Lord. Through her dark times, when she broke her neck in a car injury, through re-constructive jaw surgery from cancer, and with her final courageous battle with leukemia; never for a second did Neta waiver in her love for God and Jesus Christ. "Thank you, Jesus" was the mantle of faith she always carried. In Redeemer's Church, Neta found another family of friends with whom she felt blessed by their kindness, their genuine caring, and eternal support. Through her passion for cross-fit training, Neta developed another bonding kinship with many of the people at the GnarDog Gym. They became an unwavering source of joy and inspiration for her, as she hoped she might be for others. Neta loved to work in her yard especially with her dogs as helpers. Her Bulldogs, Winston and Amos had a special place in Neta's heart.
Neta is survived by her brothers, Glenn and Ricky with two nephews, Glenn and Robert; three children, Taylor, Jim and Rebecca and their spouses. Neta
has eight, almost nine grandchildren; and Amos.
An outside service will be held at 1:00 pm on February 6 at the Redeemer's Church in Reedley, California. We hope you can attend and share one of your favorite Neta memories. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to:
