Barney Jimenez returned to heaven on February 17, 2025 in Wasilla, AK at the age of 77. He was surrounded by his loving children when he passed, our Heavenly Father and many angels welcomed him with loving arms as he ran to embrace them.
Barney was born on February 4, 1948 in Colusa, CA to Herman and Betty Jimenez. Barney graduated Mt. Shasta High School and went on to join the army in 1967. He was wounded in battle in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart Medal. He Also received two Bronze stars medals for Valor and an Army Commendation for Heroism during his service. After healing from his injuries he moved to Alaska. Barney spent most of his career as a journeyman surveyor and electrician. He retired from Matanuska Electric Association (MEA) while living in Wasilla and then moved to Homer, AK and worked and retired from Homer Electric Association (HEA).
Barney was preceded in death by his wife, Nylah Jeanne (Pettijohn) Jimenez; his parents, Herman and Betty Jimenez; and his only sibling, Rose Jimenez.
Barney is survived by his former wife, Lory Jimenez-Betts; and his nine children, Rachel Lund, Suzy Standifird, James Jimenez, Ada Farmer, Jennifer Jensen, Robin Hocking, Maria Jimenez, Nylah Smith, and Jacob Jimenez. He is also survived by his twenty-three grandchildren, whom he cherished very much: Telluride, Trinity, Gabriel, Oren, Kaitlin, Wesley, Logan, Mack, Sterling, Haylen, Aliyah, Dru, Mason, Landon, Blake, Michael, Faye, Evan, Easton, Elsen, Ethan, Abby and Piper,;as well as his dog, Coco.
As a faithful child of God, Barney devoted his life to his family, friends, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Barney was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His favorite place to go was the Homer cabin. His favorite hobby was fishing on the ocean in his boat. He loved to talk to people and was always joking around. Barney will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend.
Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Colony chapel in Wasilla, AK on Friday, February 21st. Viewing from 4 to 6 p.m., service at 6 p.m. followed by an ice cream social.
