Betty Margaret Palmer

Betty Margaret Palmer, 84, Boaz, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2018.
Betty Margaret Heath was born in Mount Hebron, Alabama, on Aug. 21, 1933. She truly has an amazing life story, from growing up picking cotton to becoming a self-sufficient, successful, female entrepreneur.
Betty Palmer was the beloved center of a large family - mother, sister, wife, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the owner and founder of Wilson's Discount, which became Wilson Fabrics in the 1970s. She opened her first store in 1964 in Boaz, and it quickly became one of the best fabric stores, not only in Alabama, but in the United States. The fabric store is still going strong and being run by her family 54 years later. Her many employees also became part of her extended family over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rex and Opal Heath; her grandson, Trent Wilson; and a sister, Faynell Musick. She is survived by her husband, Myron "Hoppy" Palmer; her children, Robert Wilson, Charles Wilson (Charisse) and Chris Palmer (Renee); her grandchildren, Adam Wilson (Myrna), Heath Wilson (Laura), John Wilson, Derek Wilson (Skylar), Morgan Jones (Todd) and Cameron Palmer; her great-grandchildren, Savannah Wilson, Beth Wilson, Vivenne Wilson, Collins Wilson and Matthew Wilson; her brother, Kyle Heath (Ann); her sisters, Willene Barnett (Nelson) and Corriene Mitchell (John); brother-in-law, Leumon Musick; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Etowah Memorial Chapel.The funeral service will be on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Etowah Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Boaz. Brother Bobby Bright and Myron Palmer, officiating.
