James Parrish Obituary

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Crestwood Chapel for James E. Parrish, 86, Glencoe, who died Thursday, June 17, 2010. The Rev. Philip Elliott and Vince Whittington will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr. Parrish was a member of Glencoe First Baptist Church. He was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 43 years of service and owner of Wholesale Icemakers. He was a longtime supporter of Glencoe Sports and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Dad was a dedicated Christian and we celebrate his entry into God's Kingdom. His life on earth was his testimony and the love and kindness he showed to others was the legacy he left for his children and grandchildren. We have peace knowing we will join him in Heaven when we have finished our course, for we believe to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, for all who believe.
Those who preceded him in death were his wife, Helen Downey Parrish; his son, James "Jimmy" Parrish; parents, George Wesley Parrish and Pinkie Cahill Parrish; brothers, J.W. Parrish and Bill Parrish; and sister, April Sunshine Teague.
He is survived by his children, Kim (Alan) Gibbs, Mark (Cynthia) Parrish and Tammy (Jim) Moore; and daughter-in-law, Angie (Grahl) Keener; special sister-in-law, Marcia (Wayne) Rhodes and special brother-in-law, Mike Downey; grandchildren, Melissa (Adam) Pierce, Jill Parrish, Chad (Tricia) Gibbs, Ashleigh (Beau) Ashley, Christine Parrish, Stephen Parrish, Logan Moore, Lauren Moore, Cody (Landon) Ball, Zach Keener and Crystal Keener; great-grandchildren, Garrett and Morgan Ashley and Ford Pierce; his dear brother, Ben (Barbara) Parrish; and precious sisters, Nena Flo Killian, Coleen (John A.) Brown and Judy Kilgo; sisters-in-law, Jo Dean Sims and Nell Lankford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Tommy Stanley, Jeff Little and grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers include all past and present members of Glencoe Sports, Roy Gray and Ken Laughlin.
Special thanks to Dr. Johnny Wilborn, Pam, Sherry, Shundra and staff, Dr. Dinesh Parmar, Jackie and staff, Dr. Szeto and staff, GRMC Home Health and GRMC ninth floor.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 this evening at Crestwood Funeral Home.
