John Prater Obituary

John Prater, of Attalla, passed away on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at the age of 42.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at Morgan Funeral Chapel. Rev. Jimmy Bailey will officiate. Graveside service and interment to follow in Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory is directing.
John was a graduate of Etowah High School, Class of 1990, and a member of Reed Memorial Baptist Church, where he also sang in the choir. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. We will remember John as kind, friendly and gentle, devoted to his family, his church and his community. John was preceded in death by his father, Jim Prater.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his mother, Shelby Prater; brother, Mike (April) Prater; sister, Vicki Prater; special niece, Katie Prater; nephew, Luke Lathan; niece, Lauren Lathan; and a host of friends and cousins.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Floyd Prater, Bobbie Huff, Ryan Hill, Lawrence Howard, Mike Prater, Chip Battles.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Rick's Drugstore, Dr. Newman, nurses of Gadsden Regional SICU, Bro. Jimmy Bailey, Eric Phillips and to all our other friends, neighbors and coworkers for their visits, prayers and compassion - thank you all.
The family will accept friends for visitation tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

I am so shocked to hear of John's passing. I spoke with him about a month ago. He was a "Favorite student" Of my Daddy, learning the Beekeeping hobby. I KNEW JOHN ALL OF HIS LIFE. THIS WAS A MAN WHO BEAT THE ODDS FROM THE DAY HE WAS BORN.AS HE BEGAN TO GROW UP YOU COULD SEE THE LIGHT IN HIM THAT GLOWED ALWAYS.I'M GOING TO MISS HIM AS I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL.BUT WE CAN ALL REST A SURE HE IS IN HEAVEN TALKING TO HIS DADDY RIGHT NOW AND SMILING FROM EAR TO EAR..TO KNOW JOHN WAS TO LOVE HIM.
