Alex Smith Obituary

Alexander "Alex" Boyd Smith, 56 of Saddle Drive, Gaffney, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at his residence in Gaffney.

Born in Cherokee County, SC on June 6, 1966, he was the son of the late William Boyd Smith and Brenda Ann Richard Smith. Alex was employed by Dollar Tree Distribution.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Boyd Smith.

Survivors include a brother, William Lee Smith and wife, Debbie of Gaffney; two sisters, Reba Ann Henderson and husband, Robert of Gaffney and Karen Lynn Smith of Mississippi and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home.

The burial will follow the service in the Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Jake Norman

Blacksburg - Mr. Jake Norman, 63, of 101 N Chester Street , passed away on Friday, May 12th, 2023.. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 15, 2023, from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm at Restoration Point Church. Funeral services will immediately follow, at 3:00 pm with Pastor Seth Brown officiating.

The Blacksburg location of Gordon Mortuary is serving the Norman family.

Ricky Turney

Gaffney, SC - Ricky Gene "Turkey" Turney, 66, of 231 Plantation Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 12, 2023.

Born in Gaffney, he was the husband for 42 years of Sandra "Sandy" Turner Turney and the son of the late Walter "Bud" Turney and Betty Jones Turney.

He was a graduate of Gaffney High School and retired from Bonitz Construction. He enjoyed golf, enjoyed watching football, an avid Gamecock fan and also enjoyed racing, especially Dale Earnhardt. Mr. Turney was a member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church and attended Goucher Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, also surviving is a daughter, Kalee Turney Martin (Bit) of Gaffney; a brother, Kenny Turney (Barbara) of Gaffney; a sister, Sharon "Sissy" Turney Poole (Brett) of Gaffney; a brother-in-law, Randy Turner of Pacolet; a niece, Kristen Turney (Matt) of Gaffney; a nephew, Brandon Turner (Angela) of Greer; a mother-in-law, Ruby Turner of the home; and a granddaughter on the way, Balee James Martin.

Mr. Turney was preceded in death by an infant grandson; a grandmother, Ellen Louise Jones; and special uncle, Little Willie Jones.

The family will receive friends from 2:30PM until 3:45PM on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Goucher Baptist Church.

Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00PM at the church with Reverend Richard "Snake" Sellers and Mr. Ashby Blakely officiating. Interment will be in Goucher Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX, 75284-0692.

The family will be at the residence.
