LANDON ROGERS Obituary

Landon Howard Rogers, 18, passed away November 19, 2015.
He gave his all on the track. He enjoyed ROTC because he channeled all his athletic ability and drive into a cause with a purpose. But this was not the ultimate purpose that he lived for. He found his strength and life in God above.
He was an athlete-football, lacrosse, and even soccer. An MVP goes to Landon Rogers. He did not need it, or even want it to be quite frank. He pushed himself to the maxi-mum because it was the right thing to do. Commitment was not a question.
He was a musician. The guitar, singer, tuba, banjo and piano. He brought the room to life. Almost everyday he would bring out his guitar and sing about the love of the God Almighty, that he lived and showed to everyone around him. This is how he expressed himself.
He knew what right and wrong was. He knew how to treat people. He demonstrated Christ's love through forgiveness and kindness. He knew how to work hard. He knew how to lead with every action he took and word he spoke.
He is survived by his parents, two sisters, and both grandmothers. He was a son and a brother.
He was mine. He was ours. He is God's.

I interacted with Landon on numerous occasions. He was a kind individual with an amazing smile. I did not know that he was Christian, but I saw the spirit of God all over him in the way he interacted with others for he was kind, patient, rejoiced in the truth and loved others. My condolences go out the family and friends. may the peace of God that surpasses understanding be with you all.

I can't ever imagine that someone I knew and shook hands with would suddenly be taken from this world, but I know that God will take good care of you in Heaven. Praying for your family.

To the memory of Landon Rogers, son of Howard Rogers, who is son of my first cousin Ronnie Rogers of Ironton, Ohio. He certainly was a great person in H.S. and as he began College at Un. of Florida. I am deeply sorrowful for the loss of such an outstanding young man. Never got to meet him but knew of him as Howard's son. Family means much to me, we have many of the same relatives. He was from a long standing family of Rogers'. His great-grandfather was a brother of my mother and his consisted of 9 boys and 4 girls, a large family to help work the farm. Our son, Clark B. Evans lives in St. Cloud, and is an electronic engineer for the Lockheed, Marietta Corp. in Orlando. We all feel very deeply for Landon's family: father, mother, and sisters. So sad to lose him.

As a child I was good friends with Landon's older sister Hannah. We would often all play together when they lived in Anchorage, AK. After they moved back to the Lower 48 states, they came to visit and we took the whole family dog mushing. Landon was a wonderful individual, who will be greatly missed by many. My thoughts and prayers go out to his whole family.

I don't know Landon but heard the news via email from UF. I also saw a news piece on Facebook. He surely was a special and unique individual. My prayers are with the family and all those who were close to him. I think it would be so nice if someone started a scholarship fund in his name. It is clear he left a legacy and it would be nice to honor others like him as they try to pursue higher education in his honor. If that ever becomes a reality, I would like to donate.

I did not teach Landon, but had one true encounter with him as a student and as a human.

Last year, when Link Crew was just starting out here at Eastside, Landon was assigned to my classroom in Building 15 Room 51 as the "leader" of the incoming freshmen. It was during pre-planning week if I remember correctly.

He kindly introduced himself with a big wide smile and firm handshake. He asked permission to move my desks and create a circle in the room. The 5 or 6 bright eyed freshmen, who are now sophomores, sat down and Landon sat in the middle.

He spoke about all that high school has to offer and how to get involved. He spoke to them as if he was a general leading his army into battle. The newbies all warmed up to him and started asking questions. The girls flirted a little with the quarterback of our football team - giggling and blushing. His charisma, charm, kindness, and humbleness were all shown.

After the meeting, he replaced everything to the way it was, cleaned up a little mess left behind, and we began to have a conversation. I found him to be articulate and willing to help. He had said he would stop by my room from time to time to say hello, but his grueling academic, athletic, and volunteer schedule, along with my classroom location, did not allow us to cross paths again.

Though earth has lost a good man, Heaven's population has increased by 1.

Rest in peace, Landon. You will be missed.

I did not know Landon or his family. I heard about his passing at the Brandon Heath concert that I attended with my three sons. I can't imagine what you are going through as a family, but I am positive, with all of my being that the Lord is holding you all and the Spirit will comfort you. We need more young men like this on this earth. I am sure he is singing with the choirs of angels now. May you be greatly comforted. Our family will be praying for yours.

Our thoughts, prayers, and sympathy are with your family at this most difficult time. Our son, Blake, was a fellow member of the ROTC program at UF. He considered your son, to be one of his closest friends in the squad and spoke very highly of his character and zeal for life. Our son, too, is a born again Christian and we hope that his relationship with Landon will help to strengthen his relationship with God. Few men in college have that courage. I'm most impressed with the tributes regarding your son and have grieved your loss. But we know that there is a grace that God gives that defies logic in difficult times. May God wrap his loving arms around your family, comfort you, and dry your tears.

Landon will be truly missed and will forever be my "Tebow". John 14:1-4
Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.
