It has been five years since Marjorie passed away. It does not get any easier when I am thinking about how lucky I was to know her, which I did my whole life (55 years to the time of her passing). She was my Mom's best friend and their families moved to Miami together. She made my life much more rich, especially being part of her family growing up. I could always count on her for a meaningful chat. We are blessed to still have Dorie Stein, Marjorie's beloved wife, in our lives! Be well to all of you! Mike Canning, Newport Coast, CA

I did not know Marjorie had passed away. I came across an article I had saved about her and decided to try to find her. Sad news. I worked with Marjorie at Santa Fe Community College. She was probably the best, kindest, fairest supervisor I ever had.

I had the pleasure of being one of Dr. Abrams' students at the UM. She was a caring & kind person while bringing out our best selves along the way.

Sadly, I am reading about this only now. Dorie, you and Marjorie were always such joyful people in my life. All my memories of you two together bring joy to me still. I miss both of your kind and humorous spirits. I hope we can connect again sometime soon.

Where do I start??? Margie and I were roommates in Atlanta and traveled to Europe on $5 a day in 1961. We then moved to New York where we had fun adventures....she was truly the most brilliant person I ever knew! She moved back to Miami and I remained in New York. My husband and I were so delighted when she and Dorie came to visit us several years ago. We spoke on the phone frequently and there are simply no words to say when someone is lost to us! Sending Dorie strength and love at this very sad time...

My family has so many wonderful memories of Marjorie. Yes, she and my mother, Joan, were cousins but more like sisters. Growing up, we took many trips to Florida to visit our grandparents as well as Aunt Audrey and Uncle Al, Cousins Kenny and Marjorie as well as Uncle Chucky and Aunt Annette.
We so loved when Marjorie and Dorie would come visit my parents and me and Uncle Harold in Chicago. We knew we could look forward to good restaurants, important political conversations, enjoying the Chicago Symphony and discussing what's new and fun in our lives. Marjorie's curiousity and joie de vivre will be missed and is a wonderful model for life.

For Dorie: I have lovely memories: sharing William James over sandwiches in Crandon Park, searching for Annie Dillard's Tinker Creek in Virginia: just marveling over inspiring words of gifted writers. What a spirit! Dynamic,
insightful, acutely sensitive to injustice, kind. We have lost a beautiful soul.

I can hear her saying, "What are you reading?" From that question came wonderful, insightful observations. She was always interested and thoughtful. She is missed.

Dorie, you and Marjorie were such lovely neighbors, the best we could ask for. So glad we had you both over for dinner in October and were able to enjoy Marjorie's wit and gift of conversation one last time. Ben and I are so saddened by her passing. All who knew her have lost a dear friend, and our community and the causes of our heart have lost a fierce warrior and advocate.
Dorie, please know we are here for you and sending you light and comfort in our thoughts and prayers. May your memories buoy you through these rough seas.

Dorie, You are in our thoughts. May you move smoothly through the grief and be comforted by so many years of sweet memories.
Margie has always been a very special cousin to my Mom, Joanie. They shared a childhood and were great friends as adults. As I got older, I came to understand Mom's admiration, as I got to know you both. Now Margie & Joanie are together.
They were, are, both Great Women who lived their beliefs, and used their passions to educate and to serve.
She took time to study environmental issues, to be informed, and to be an activist. That is a lot, but She went further and wrote about those issues, and in a way that the tales and lessons might reach many - in the form of mystery novels.
Margie, thank you for reminding us how important it is to SPEAK UP in the face of wrong-doing to others and our planet.
Margie is such an inspiration for us, and so is the team of Margie and Dorie! We will miss her dearly. Love Ruth & Bill & Harold

My Aunt Margie was the best relative and friend a person could have. She was an excellent listener and a devoted partner to Dorie Stein. I will miss her a lot and hope she is visiting with my Mom in heaven. Margie and Dorie are the Godmothers to my daughter Grace, pictured here.
