Marshall Straw Obituary

Marshall R. "Marty" Straw, 79, a resident of Myrtle Beach, SC, and formerly of West Decatur, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach.

Born on September 16, 1945 in Philipsburg, he was a son of Clair M. Straw and Verna V. (Millner) Straw Batchelder.

Marty was a 1963 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola High School and retired from I.B.E.W. #126 where he was a Lineman. He was a member of the former Oak Grove United Methodist Church (now Rock United Methodist Church), in West Decatur and F& AM Moshannon Lodge #391.

On December 18, 1965 in West Decatur, he married Betty Suszanne (Walters). She passed away October 15, 2019.

Marty is survived by 2 sons, Kirk Straw and his wife Georgia of West Decatur and Craig Straw and his wife Elizabeth Campbell of Philadelphia; a daughter Crystal Frank and her husband Kyle of State College; a brother Richard Straw and his wife Mitz of Spirit Lake, Idaho; 4 grandchildren Shayne Straw and his wife Miranda and Austin Straw of West Decatur, and Grace Straw and Tessa Straw of Philadelphia; 3 great grandchildren Adalynn, Freya and Beckham - children of Shayne and Miranda; and his partner Joan Bobb.

In addition to his parents and wife, Marty was preceded in death by three sisters Mary Etta Wallace, Lettie Jane Twoey and Phyllis Kay Cowder and a granddaughter Jessica Taylor Straw.

Honoring Marty's wishes, there will not be a public viewing.

A private funeral service for family and friends will be held on Sunday, August 24th, 2025, at Noon at the Dahlgren-Spewock Funeral Home, Inc., Philipsburg.

Marty will be laid to rest next to his wife Betty Sue at the Stoneville Cemetery, West Decatur RD.
