Julie Guffey Obituary

Grandmothers are the gifts of God, making sure that the children both grand and great have the things in life she never had and that they don't have to do without. Kind of reminds us of a Proverb that was never written. However the closest one that best describes Julie Naomi "Dave" Haas Guffey is Proverbs 31:10: A virtuous woman whose price is far above rubies.

Julie was taken away from us at the age of 83 on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, just ten days before her 84th birthday. She was a woman who loved dearly and enjoyed life. A beautiful Cherokee Indian American, Julie met her husband Joseph Gaither Guffey when he saw her portrait in a photographer's window on Main Street in Gastonia. He questioned people as to who the beautiful woman was, later finding her and falling in love at first sight. They were married for 67 wonderful years. Julie was a member of Temple Baptist Church of Gastonia.

Those who preceded Julie in death were her parents Reverend Luther P. Haas and Julia Rachel Stafford Haas, six sisters and five brothers. Julie was the seventh child of twelve born to Luther and Julia.

Those left behind to cherish the beautiful memories of Julie are her daughter Rebecca "Becky" Childers of Vale, NC; son: Danny Ray Guffey of Gastonia, North Carolina; four grandchildren: Brooke Ramsey and husband Ted of Lincolnton, North Carolina, Katy Geymont and husband Jonathan of Lincolnton, North Carolina, Joseph D. Guffey and Danielle Guffey of Gastonia, North Carolina; five great-grandchildren: Harper, Jackson, Gemma, Sierra and Brody.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held noon Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, in the Chapel of Carothers Fu-neral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, NC 28054 with the Rev. Scott Whitener to deliver the words of comfort to the family and friends.

Active pallbearers are Ted Ramsey, Jonathan Geymont, Joseph D. Guffey, Lewis Bridges, Bill Hollar and Charles Laughridge.

Julie's family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Monday prior to the ceremony at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel.

The committal service will follow the ceremony at Gaston Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest.
