Lisa Ononye Obituary
She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Chuma Ononye, and devoted mother of Adaora and Nneka.
Lisa was born Feb. 8, 1964, in Sunshine, Australia and raised in Portarlington, where she attended Portarlington Primary and then Sacred Heart College. After she and Chuma, the love of her life, were married Nov. 4, 2000, on the beach of Amelia Island, Fla., they made their new home in America, where their beautiful daughters, Adaora and Nneka, were born.
Lisa's giving nature led her not only to become a wonderful, nurturing mother, but also to help others in the community. While the family resided in Waycross, Ga., Lisa volunteered at a rape crisis center and at a women's shelter, assisting young mothers through their struggles.
The family then moved to Gastonia, where the Ononyes were members of Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church. Lisa used her time and talents volunteering at St. Michael Catholic School as well as at Catherine's House for homeless women and children.
Lisa's desire to help others and bring peace to their lives was what fueled her beautiful spirit. Lisa was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Chuma Ononye.
She is survived by her daughters, Adaora and Nneka; mother, Helen Harwood (Barry); sister, Gillian Millen (Barry); sister, Andrea Duim (Tony); nieces, Tiaan and Jorji; nephews, Seamus, Jackson and Wil, all of Australia; cousins Ify and Olisa Nwadiogbu, and their children Tori and Dubem, all of Atlanta, Ga.; brother-in-law, Dr. Chuba and Ifeoma Ononye, and their children, Makua and Chinaza, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; as well as many loving friends.
Lisa was laid to rest in a seaside ceremony in Australia. A stateside Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at 7 p.m. at Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church in Belmont, followed by a reception in the parish center.
Lisa's family kindly asks that attendees wear bright colors to honor Lisa.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lisa Ononye Love, Light and Joy Memorial Fund, c/o Carolina Trust Bank, 534 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC 28054.

It was a sad day for my Wife and I when we learnt that Lisa passed. We pray that the Good Lord will "Grant Her Eternal Rest". May Her Gentle Soul Rest in Peace.

Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort Adaora Ononye, Nneka Ononye and your family (mom).
