Chih Wang Obituary

Sept. 20, 1917 - Dec. 5, 2006

Chih Wang, Ph.D. passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, at home. He was 89.

Chih was born in China and received his Ph.D. at Oregon State University in 1950. He was honored for his contributions leading to the establishment of the Department of Nuclear Engineering and the Radiation Center at OSU.

Because of the foundation prepared by his research in nuclear technology in the late 1950s and his leadership through the 1960s, 70s and early 80s, the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Center provide valuable education and irradiation services to customers around the world. Wang was a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Chemists and the American Nuclear Society, and he was instrumental in opening communications on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy between the U.S. and the People's Republic of China.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Wang; son Deing Wang, Ph.D.; grandson Steven Wang; granddaughter Jessica Huster; and four great-grandchildren, Stephanie Wang, Kasey Wang, Susan Huster and George Huster.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at McHenry Funeral Home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to The OSU Foundation, In Memory of Dr. C.H. Wang, 850 S.W. 35th St., Corvallis, OR 97333.
