Feb. 8, 1946 - June 12, 2013
Janet "Jan" Mosley died Wednesday, June 12, while asleep at her home in Corvallis, in the presence of her family.
Jan was born in Pendleton to Vernon and Eula Atchison Hollingsworth. She graduated from Blue River High School and completed several college courses. Jan wore many hats during a long working career.
She served as a police officer in Pendleton, Hermiston and Albany before joining Oregon State University, where she served as secretary of the Hermiston Agricultural Research and Extension Center, secretary to the OSU Faculty Senate, and department manager of the departments of Fisheries and Wildlife, Civil and Construction Engineering, and Chemical and Environmental Engineering.
Jan was an avid reader of fiction and proud owner of the complete works of Stephen King. She also enjoyed colorful humor, knitting, needlepoint, good movies, travel and her many feline friends. As a youngster she often could be found astride a horse, "Lady," or motorcycle. Jan derived great pleasure from a large circle of friends and was devoted to each.
Jan retained her cheerful, nurturing nature throughout a prolonged illness and actively participated in planning for her demise. We will remember her as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who never forgot a birthday, and as a loyal, steadfast friend. For those of us who knew her well, the world will be a lesser place without Janet Ruth Mosley.
Jan was preceded in death by parents Eula and Vernon Hollingsworth; siblings Gerald Hollingsworth, Joan Phipps and Carol Repplinger; and nephews Robert Bowman and Jonathan Phipps. She is survived by husband Alvin Mosley; former husband Ronald Schmidt; children Shane (Kim) Schmidt and Shyla (Jason) Johnson; grandchildren Blake Henry and Landon Johnson; stepchildren Dan (Kari) Mosley and Jessica (Glenn) Keiper; and six step-grandchildren.
A celebration of Jan's life will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at the Clubhouse, 6097 N.E. Ebony Lane, Adair Village. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to Benton Hospice Service, the Oregon Humane Society or local humane societies.
