Janesville, WI - Eugene F. "Gene" Rux, 95, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024 at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital Janesville, surrounded by his family. Gene was born on June 18, 1928 to Fred and Emma (Tomashaska) Rux in Eagle Township, Richland County, WI. He entered the United States Army in 1946 and was stationed in Germany while serving in WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1948. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Foley on July 26, 1952 in Loreto, WI. Together they raised two children, Brad and Judy. They moved to LaCrosse, WI in 1959 where he drove truck for Gateway Transportation. In 1973 they moved to Janesville, WI where Gene retired from TNT Holland Trucking in 1989. Upon retirement he worked for Fairview Florist delivering flowers and was later employed by Fagan Chevrolet as a shuttle driver for several years.
Gene loved life. Spending time with family was very important to him. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. They always brought a big smile to his face. They all loved and adored "Papa".
Gene enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. He especially loved his times in LaCrosse fishing with his buddies. LaCrosse was truly "God's Country" in his mind. He was always ready to go back to visit. He was a big Green Bay Packer fan. He, along with his son, grandson, and son-in-law ushered at Lambeau Field during home games for many years.
Gene is survived by his children, Brad (Kathy) Rux and Judy (Jeff) Erdmann; grandchildren, Jason (Candice) Rux, Sarah Rux, Josh (Brittany) Erdmann, and Kaitlin (Jeff) Simmons; great-grandchildren, Brayleigh and Braxton Rux, Ella Erdmann, Cameron Simmons, and another great-grandson on the way; twin sister Betty Unbehaun; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Emma, wife, Betty, siblings, Myron, Earl, Bernice, Merlin, Madalene, Gerald "Speck", and Richard "Dick".
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church Janesville with visitation from 10:00am until 11:00am, Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am, Burial with military honors will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Muscoda, WI at a later date.
Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.
The family would like to thank the staff at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital for their care and kindness given to Gene.
Gene's love of family and friends and passion for life will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
We will miss him every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
