JESUS HERNANDEZ
Jesus Hernandez passed away May 21, 2025, in Salina, KS. He left a warm and wonderful mark in the city and the house he loved. He was born on July 27, 1952, in Deerfield, KS. He attended Deerfield High School and graduated in 1970. He then went to Kansas State University obtained a BS in 1974 and a MS in 1976.
Jesus was proceeded in death by his Parents: Guadalupe Mosqueda Hernandez and Valentin Hernandez; and siblings: Angela Ledesma, Juan Hernandez, Adeline Arellano, Natividad Hernandez, Mary Searles, Abelardo Hernandez and Nickolasa Guerrero.
Jesus is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Debra Ortiz Hernandez. He will be missed by his children, Nicaela (Nica) Marroquin, Jesus (Chuy) Hernandez, Julia (Who) Hernandez and grandchildren, Aliya Marroquin, Zaden Marroquin, Dominic Marroquin and Alejandro Hernandez. He is also survived by his siblings Ladislado Hernandez, Susana Rodriguez, Steven Hernandez, Valentin Hernandez and Rose Monroy.
Jesus Hernandez had a passion for teaching not only children but also to help adults in his communities. He was a Spanish teacher at Garden City High School, Garden City Community College, Salina South High School, Sacred Heart High School, Kansas Wesleyan and Kansas State University. He taught ESL to adults at the Adult Learning center in Garden City. Jesus Hernandez will be remembered by those who knew him as someone who could make friends with anyone and strike up a conversation just about anything to make a good discussion. He loved to cook for his friends, family and students. He was passionate about his garden, especially his peppers. He enjoyed playing chess and discovering new ways to cook food. He loved going to and cheering for his beloved alma mater, Kansas State University.
Jesus liked spectating or volunteering at the area High school sporting events especially if his students were participating. He felt pride in the achievement his students found later in life and enjoyed hearing their stories of success.
Jesus always prioritized fitness and working out. He appreciated spending time at the local YMCA and having a workout around friends. Jesus was also a longtime fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and NY/LA Dodgers.
Jesus Hernandez's celebration of life in Salina will be held privately with family. If you would like to honor Jesus' memory in lieu of Flowers, you can donate to the Salina Education Foundation, in memory of Jesus Hernandez. You can make the donation in care of Ryan Mortuary at 137 N. Eighth, Salina, KS 67401. The Salina Education Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization to benefit the students and sta of USD 305 Salina Public Schools and the Central Kansas Cooperative in Education's Salina-based programs.
There will be a celebration of life in Garden City, Kansas, on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Deane Wiley park shelter #9 (Streets Crossing: Mary & Cherokee) at 2:30-5:00PM. Where family and friends are encouraged to gather, bring food, chairs and smiles.
