Adolph Baletka Obituary

Adolph "Sonny" John Baletka

July 17, 1951 - December 11, 2021

"Sonny" Adolph John Baletka, age 70, passed away December 11, 2021.

Born July 17, 1951, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Adolph John "A.J." and Anita Gardikis Baletka, I grew up in Granger, Utah, where my love of music began. Throughout high school I enjoyed playing guitar in both rock and roll and country music bands. During that time, I was also a running back for the Granger High Football Team.

After high school I continued my education at the University of Utah and later transferred to Westminster College. While attending Westminster I was involved in an industrial accident that left me with a brain injury. As a result of the accident many new challenges were faced. These challenges put me on path to Grand Junction, Colorado, where I lived with assisted care.

Special thanks to all caregivers in both Utah and Colorado. I especially appreciate the care received at both Hilltop Care Center and Mantey Heights Rehabilitation and Care Center.

Preceded in death by parents, A.J. and Anita Baletka, and sister, Terry Baletka Bennet, I am survived by brothers, Everett (Joanne) Baletka, and Steve (Traci) Sandquist; favorite niece, April Baletka Stutzman, and nephews, Jerad, Wesley, and Jordan Baletka.

In lieu of flowers a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, my favorite charity, would be appreciated.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 18, at 12 noon at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, with a viewing one hour prior to the services. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery.

I became acquainted with Sonny many years ago when he was admitted to the Life Adjustment Program for assisted residential living. We were contemporaries, born a few months apart, and shared many of the same life experiences. Sonny had a ready smile and hearty laugh and was irrepressibly good-natured. I only knew the version of Sonny after he sustained a life altering injury but I am confident that we would have been friends had we met at an earlier time or place. He was a good man with a kind heart and will be missed by all who knew him.

I have the fondest of memories playing guitar with Sonny. He was much better than me and he made his own electric guitar! I appreciated his quiet, strong and honest ways. I love this picture of him! RIP, good one. Condolences to Sonny´s family and loved ones.

Sonny certainly enjoyed Country Jam! He had many challenges, but seemed to keep a happy disposition. It was my pleasure to have known him.
