Douglas Cates passed away on the morning of December 13, 2016, in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Douglas was born August 9, 1971, in Lakeview, Oregon to Jim Cates and Becky Lee. He grew up running logging equipment with his papa (Benner) until he chose to serve our country with the United States Marines. After the Marines he helped his papa log.
He moved to Grand Junction where he started his career with United Companies. He worked for them for 15 years doing what he loved, operating equipment, where he became a Finished Blade hand. Later became a foreman. His love was equipment and the Marines.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Stacy Warren, who was by his side faithfully and loved him unconditionally; his ex-wife, Brandy Patzke and their daughter, Hunter Cates all of Grand Junction; son, Walker Cates, California; sister, Heidi Thompson, Medford, Oregon.
Douglas is preceded in death by father, Jim Cates; mother, Becky Lee, and grandparents.
Services will be at Callahan-Edfast, 2515 Patterson Road, Grand Junction, CO 81505, Monday December 19, 2016 at 12:30 p.m., followed by graveside at Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
