Dear Enos and Cimino Families,
We were shocked and so very saddened to read of Marilyn's death. We want to express our sincere condolences to you and your extended family.
I only met Marilyn ONE TIME, but she had a distinct impression on me. It was at SI when my daughter, Clare Canellos, came back from her Kairos retreat. Clare and Alex attended Kairos the same week. On the last retreat day, upon return to the school grounds, the parents were milling outside the chapel waiting to go in for the concluding ceremony. Marilyn was standing next to me and started talking to me as if she had known me her whole life! We ended up sitting together inside and were giggling about our kids. Marilyn was a beautiful, kind, warm soul. Like you said, she took people in, as she did me that day. I never ran into her again at any SI events, but I wanted you to know my story.
Yours,
Kerry Canellos

Oh, my heart breaks for this loss! I was one of Marilyn’s roommates at UCD with Ellen in our junior year. I have such fond memories of that time that I will cherish always. I offer my heartfelt sympathy to her family and especially to Steve and her sons.
With love,
Cathy (Garvey) Engstrom

Marilyn was a wonderful flute student and friend of mine. She diligently took up the difficult instrument and studied every week for a few years. Our Friday mornings were spent at my house with stories and shared weekly experiences. She was such a joy to be around and she literally lit up the room when she came in. I always looked forward to seeing her. I also got to know her wonderful family Steve and the boys and hope they will be comforted in remembering what a great person Marilyn was. She will be greatly missed.

Marilyn. What comes to mind is a husky warm voice and gigantic smile. A particular smile. Like one that God must have brewed up and been very pleased with. A smile like those crazy big moons that appear sometimes on the horizon and you cannot quite believe them. From where I sat, she was always kind and always real and always able to find the good and the humor in any situation. She was always game to step up and create things —whether it was in the kitchen or on the art table. She crocheted more crayon holders for our first grade class than advisable She always welcomed others to play with her including me. I see her schlepping a giant branch into the gym now. She always made me feel that I belonged. She wasa friend to turn 50 first, a friend with sons. I can hear her describing the boys antics, how they hurdled themselves off high surfaces or into harm’s way, the word that comes to mind is agog, her smile hanging open. I remember her saying, “Uh, boysuse your brainsjust think about xxx.” I think of her and Steve dancing. I think of her in the forest...and of wool and horn buttons.
I lost touch with Marilyn when the family left Greenwood although there was always a very warm hug in the grocery store or restaurant. A magnificent person of insane amounts of talent. I regret not hurdling myself back into her circle when the sickness appeared — I felt it was not appropriate— she has so many wonderful friends— I’ve learned a life lesson though.
It seemed to me that she loved her family and her friends to the moon and back.
Having lost my mother and wishing but truth be told doubting that the end was truly the end, I can tell you that I have grown to believe, dare I say KNOW that she is still present(in addition to being in my heart..indeed, she lives in me even stronger than she did when she was alive) there are times when I know she is here, literally.
I am grateful to have known Marilyn in this life and I will think of her ...until I see her again. Love to you all.

Marilyn was one of the most beautiful women I know, both inside and out. She was artistically talented in interior design, clothing and creative in the kitchen. She had a warm and nurturing heart and was always thinking of others. She will be missed by many. God has an incredible angel at His side now. ❤

Marilyn will be missed and loved forever. When you were with Marilyn she made you feel like you were the only one in the room and whatever the discussion, it was all that mattered. She was always present. She was beautiful, loving and always so positive. Michael, Don and I just adored her. How we will miss that smile.
