Joyce Redmond Obituary
It is with saddened hearts that we tell you of the passing of our mom and friend, Joyce Redmond, on March 15,2025 at JGS Lifecare Nursing Home in Longmeadow, MA.
Born on October 18, 1930, in North River, NY, Joyce was the daughter of Bill and Clara (Corlew) Smith and sister to Elizabeth, Wenona (Pokey), Madeline, Evelyn and David.
Joyce grew up in North River and graduated from Johnsburg Central High School in 1948.
On June 28, 1953 she married Lindy Redmond at Christ Church United Methodist. Together they raised four daughters, Cheryl, Tammy, Lori, and Colleen. They were married for 56 years until Lindy's passing in March of 2010.
She was a lifelong member of Christ Church United Methodist. At church you could always find her working at the Country Fair, the Antique Show, and the Christmas Tea. She also attended Hudson Falls United Methodist Church where she had many friends.
Joyce had a love for square dancing and she and Lindy were members of the Merry Mohicans Square Dance Club and the Heidelberg Twirlers. She enjoyed sewing and making all their square dance outfits. Besides square dancing she loved camping, traveling in their motor home, her trips to Hawaii and Florida, gardening, and music. You could always hear her humming as she went about her day. Mom and Dad loved listening to country music, going to Nashville and to bluegrass festivals.
Most important to mom was spending time with her family. She loved being a stay-at-home mom, being a grandmother and a great-grandmother.
Besides Lindy, she was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Clara Smith and her sisters, Betty Smith, Wenona Smith, Madeline Nave, and Evelyn Thomas.
She will be forever missed by her daughters and sons-in-law Cheryl and John Lawrence, Tammy and Paul Dowen, Lori and BJ Baker and Colleen and Tom Nelson. Her nine grandchildren, Erin Dowen, Aimee (Steve) Tessino, Casey (Tom) Cosey, Bryanna (Mike) Simons, Joshua (Rachel) Baker, Kara Lawrence, Katie (Adam) Mistry, Hannah Baker, and Arielle Nelson (Jose Santiago-Cruz). She was "Mema" to her six great grandchildren, Brayden Cosey, Sayde Tessino, Leah Cosey, Amelia and Sean Baker and Vela Santiago-Cruz who all held a very special place in her heart. She will also be missed by her brother, David Smith, her sisters-in-law, Florence Burnham, Allison (Rod) Bailey, her brother-in-law, Charles Redmond and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church United Methodist 54 Bay Street, Glens Falls, NY.
In lieu of flowers we ask the donations be made to the Christian Appalachian Project, PO Box 758621 Topeka, KS 66675-8621, an organization that mom was very passionate about.
