Mildred Holloway Obituary

KANAWHA - Mildred "Mil" Brummund Holloway died Sunday (April 27, 2008) at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date.

Mil was born in Kanawha on Oct. 8, 1913, to Herman and Lela (Young) Brummund. She had two brothers, John and Bob Brummund.

Mildred graduated from high school in Kanawha and attended Drake University in Des Moines. She graduated from the nursing program at Mercy Hospital in Mason City and later graduated with a masters in nursing from the University of California Los Angeles.

She worked as an obstetrical nurse for many years in the Los Angeles area.

Mildred became a professor of nursing having taught at Harbor College in Los Angeles. She was instrumental in starting the nursing program at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, Calif.

It was during her work as a registered nurse that she met and married Boothby Holloway. They lived most of their married life in the Los Angeles area and to this union Mil and Boots had two sons, Sterling and Peter Holloway.

After the death of her husband, Mil moved back to Kanawha to be near her son Peter and his family and to participate in the family farming operation.

She later married Robert Clark of Kanawha.

Mildred remained active in the medical field serving as an emergency medical technician in Kanawha. She also was active on the Physician Search Committee, and served the community with the Saturday morning blood pressure clinics.

Nursing was a major part of Mildred's life, and she was an excellent role model for her daughter-in-law, Lissa, and granddaughter, Jennifer.

Mildred is survived by her son, Sterling and his wife, Vera, and their children, LeAnn Marino, Sterling Holloway, Robert Holloway and David Holloway, all of Auburn, Calif.; son, Peter and his wife, Lissa, of Kanawha and their children, Jennifer Weiland of Britt and Sarah Holloway of San Diego, Calif.; as well as nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Lela Brummund; brothers, John and Bob Brummund; husband Boothby Holloway; and second husband Robert Clark.
