Cathy Grogan Obituary

Cathy Grogan

September 5, 1951 - May 24, 2025

Cathy Grogan, beloved wife, mother, Mimi, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, at the age of 73. She was born on September 5, 1951, a daughter of the late Ernest Charles White and the late Nancy Graves Carter White, Cathy was also predeceased by a son, Frank Thomas Grogan IV (Tommy). She is survived by her husband, Dr. F. Tom Grogan III of the home; daughter, Kelly Jordan (Patrick) of Danville; sister, Julie Hirschberg (Alan) of Thousand Oaks, Ca.; grandsons, Ethan Jordan and Nick Jordan of Danville; and nieces and nephews.

In 1971 Cathy married her childhood sweetheart, Tom, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Cathy was a loving mother and grandmother whose strength, compassion, warmth, and understanding guided her family through every chapter of life. Her grandchildren lovingly knew her as "Mimi", a role she cherished and embraced with affection and joy. Cathy grew up with a deep love for family, animals, and the simple joys of life. An avid animal lover, Cathy knew truth in the adage that you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat animals. She cared deeply for all creatures, great and small. She was the lifeguard rescuer to a drowning insect in the swimming pool, and the lost dog or cat she would chase on foot, in pursuit through a four-lane highway. Her gentle spirit and kind heart left a lasting impact on every life she touched. Cathy's legacy of love, kindness, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Cathy will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Townes Funeral Home Chapel, 215 West Main St., Danville, VA 24541. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., with the memorial service beginning at 2 p.m. A private graveside service is planned for the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Danville Area Humane Society, PO Box 3352, Danville, VA 24543.
