Daniel Walker Obituary

Daniel Thomas Walker

February 6, 1928 - July 14, 2025

Daniel Thomas Walker, of Reidsville, NC, ended his earthly journey on July 14, 2025 at age 97.

Dan was born in South Boston, Virginia, February 6, 1928 to Edgar Franklin and Georgia Clay Daniels Walker.

He graduated C.H. Friend High School in 1946 where he was the class Vice president, Captain of the football team, played basketball and had a great fastball on the baseball team. He later attended Fork Union Military Academy and joined the Army during the occupation of Germany where he was a marksman and rose to the rank of Sergeant. He enjoyed touring around Europe and returned many years later in his travels. In 1966 he joined the first management team at the new Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company plant in Danville, Va. He was employed there until his retirement.

He enjoyed his Church, Freedom Baptist Church in Reidsville, his family and friends along with photography, playing bridge, square dancing, hunting, fishing, traveling, dining out and meeting new friends.

Dan is survived by two sons: Dan Walker, Jr. of Liberty and Bill Walker (Linda) of Siler City; Five grandchildren: Ryan Walker and Lucas Walker of Greensboro, Amanda Care of Climax, Anya Walker of Sanford and Ross Walker of Raleigh; six great grandchildren; and nephew and nieces Ed Walker, Monty Long and Linda Carpenter.

He joins his Family in Heaven, father Edgar Franklin Walker and mother Georgia Clay Daniels Walker; siblings Louise Jennings, Winona Walker, Leora Shelton, Mary Walker, Carolyn Walker, Frank Walker and Hope Carpenter; and son Alan Walker.

It can be lonely when one outlives nearly everyone they knew as a young person. Fortunately, through his many passions and hobbies and with his always cheerful demeanor, he made many new friends in retirement. We are most humbly grateful for the kindness and support freely given throughout his life by his extended family and many good friends, and we particularly thank those who kept in touch with Dan over the later years of his life and generously gave him much love and comfort. We also thank the many health care professionals who, in accordance with their profession, assisted him in dealing with the many challenges of reaching such a grand age.

A celebration of life will be held at Powell Funeral Home Chapel on August 3, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. A family graveside burial service with Military Rites will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in his family plot.
