Lois Parker Gibson, 76, of Chatham, Va., passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at her residence. She was born on February 20, 1943, in Pittsylvania County, Va., to the late Gracie Mitchell Parker and Ben Parker. Mrs. Gibson is survived by her husband, Kermit Gibson. Mrs. Gibson graduated from Longwood College in 1965. Mrs. Gibson was a lifelong member of Marion Baptist Church, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and working with the children. She taught in the public school system for 54 years, she touched many lives with her passion for teaching. Mrs. Gibson enjoyed traveling, camping, and visiting shut-ins. She also enjoyed helping her husband with his excavating business. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Gibson is survived by her nieces, Judy Wallace and Gail Goad; and her nephew, Donnie Parker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her brothers, Bernard Parker and Herman Parker. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Marion Baptist Church, 2669 Marion Road, Chatham, Va., and at other times at the residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2019, at Marion Baptist Church, with Dr. Henry Meadows officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
