Helen Doenges Obituary

Our mother was born in Edwardsville, Illinois on Oct. 15, 1921. Helen was raised in Terre Haute, Indiana where she attended Indiana State University. She married Marion Myers Thompson and had two daughters, Margy, and Jane Thompson. After the unexpected death of her husband in 1951, she met and married Frank Doenges in 1954. With Frank, the family added a third daughter, Kay.

The family moved to Louisville in 1963, where they became active members of Christ United Methodist Church. She was an avid golfer, and bridge player, and a member of Audubon Country Club. She loved to read and supported and volunteered at the Louisville public library. She was exquisite at needlepoint, and knitting and everyone cherished a gift of her handiwork.

She was predeceased in death by her husband, Frank, and her sister, Marian Davis.

She is survived by her brother, Wayne Gieseman, Chicago; sister-in-law Martha (Tom Wampler), Terre Haute. Three daughters - Margy (Dale Seebold), Jane Birckhead, (Rod Mac Eachen), Cincinnati, Kay (Frank Lord), Winston Salem, North Carolina.

She also leaves a legacy of grandchildren - Rebecca Seebold, Rachel (BillNethertonn), Frank Lord IV, (Travis Chamberlain) New York City, Ted Lord (Elizabeth), Rocky Mount, North Carolina; and six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews in Indiana, Illinois, Florida, Michigan, and Texas.

In 2014, she moved to Westport Place, where she thrived with the compassionate staff and residents. Because of the quality of care, it added years to her life and life to her years. We would like to thank the staff for their personal friendship and individual relationship each caregiver provided for her comfort with a watchful eye.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2019. Www.pearsonsfuneraldirectors.com handling the arrangements.
