Joe Bean Obituary

Joe Bean

Ozona

Joe Fredrick Bean, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2017, in Crockett County. He was born on Sept. 24, 1930, to George James Bean and Vada Jenkins Bean.

Joe grew up loving the ranch in Crockett County, where he lived most of his life. He attended high school in San Angelo and enjoyed playing football for the San Angelo High Bobcats. One of his fondest memories of that time was when his football team traveled to Mexico City to play against their local team.

While attending high school in San Angelo, Joe met Marolyn Powell. The two were married on Sept. 5, 1950. Joe served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 in Japan and Korea; he was discharged at Ft. Bliss, El Paso, in July, 1954. At that time, he and Marolyn returned to the ranch and started a family. God placed Joe in the perfect location to provide for his family and he was happiest when he and his "sweetheart" were cruising the ranch roads. Joe and Marolyn had three sons, David Joe, George Douglas, and James Daniel. One of Joe's top priorities was stewardship of the land and he shared his passion for ranching with his three sons. In 1968, Joe went into partners with his three sons, and together they formed the 4-D Ranch Company for David, Douglas, Dan and Daddy.

Joe was a long time member of the Baptist church. He was very active in community life where he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors at Ozona Bank, president of the Crockett County School Board and Director of the Robert Massie Foundation. He was also a member of the Agriculture Stability and Conservation Committee, the Crockett County Cemetery Board, the Crockett County FHA Committee, the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers, and the Southwestern Cattle Raisers.

Joe and Marolyn loved to travel and never passed up a chance to go somewhere. They drove to all of the lower 48 states-never with a reservation anywhere! They have also enjoyed trips abroad to Australia, Europe, and South America. But family has always been their number one priority, and they enjoy reaping the rewards of raising their three boys to adulthood.

He is preceded in death by two of his sons David Joe Bean and James Daniel Bean and his parents George and Vada Bean; and his brother and two sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Marolyn Powell Bean; his son George Doulas Bean and wife Tina, daughter-in-law Helen Bean, and daughter-in-law Elaine West. Grandchildren Wesley Bean and wife Lindsy, Ryan Bean and wife Rachel, Kimber Bean Childress and husband John Clayton, and Allie Bean Moore and husband Chase. Great-grandchildren are Skylar, Kurt, Kelynn and Stockton Bean; Claire and Wyatt Bean; Charles, Madolyn and Sadie Childress; and Grace, Powell and Amy Moore.

Honorary pallbearers are Mike Edinburg, Brian May, board members of the Ozona Bank and his many coffee drinking friends from Wool Growers.

Graveside service is at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Ozona. Online condolences may be made at kerbowfuneralhome.com.
