TOM SLOAN POOL

TOM POOL Obituary

SAN SABA - Tom Sloan Pool, 75, of San Saba passed away on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, in Fredericksburg, Texas. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Sloan Pool Ranch with the Rev. Keith Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in the Poolville Cemetery. Sloan "Peaches" was born on April 20, 1929, in Temple to C. C. and Tom V. Pool. He spent all of his life ranching in San Saba County. He was a lifetime member of the New Hope Presbyterian Church. Sloan was known and recognized for his breeding of Beefmaster cattle. He loved to ranch and was a bulls-eye shot. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed numerous hunting trips to Colorado and New Mexico. The only thing he loved better than breeding horses was watching them race. He met many people and made lifelong friends from all over the country racing horses. He knew no strangers and enjoyed the company of his many friends. There was not anything he would not do for a friend. His many memories will be treasured, and his legacy will live on for many years to come. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Merlane Pool. Other survivors include his children, Laura Behrens and husband Carter, Pat Pool and wife Jo Nell, and Christine Bessent and husband Keith; stepson Brad Moseley; grandchildren Alicia Behrens Cole and husband Sterling, Chris Pool and James Pool; faithful companion, Punker Pool; and many friends. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff at Hill Country Memorial Hospital, most especially Dr. Watkins, Dr. Cohn and all the nurses in the ICU. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
