Paul Nyle Eggert, age 90, of Spring Lake, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 22, 2025, surrounded by love.
Born on May 13, 1935, in Muskegon, Michigan, Paul was the son of the late Nyle and Viola (Matthews) Eggert. A proud graduate of Grand Haven High School's Class of 1954, he went on to Michigan State University, earning his bachelor's degree in 1958. Paul's entrepreneurial spirit led him to open Pine Teak, a small furniture business in Muskegon. Later, he stepped into his father's shoes as President and owner of National Products Displays, carrying on the family legacy with dedication and vision.
Sailing was Paul's lifelong passion. A member of the Spring Lake Yacht Club since the age of 13, he found joy and freedom on the water. He traveled the world with a sailor's heart, charting adventures to the Caribbean Islands, Spain, Belize, and beyond. Whether near or far, Paul believed the best journeys were those that blended discovery, laughter, and good company.
He also loved a lively celebration – especially if there was music, because no evening was complete without dancing. Above all, Paul's greatest treasure was his family. He lit up when spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking pride in watching them grow and thrive. His warmth, humor, and generosity of spirit will forever be remembered.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth "Bette" Straus-Eggert; his daughter, Amy (Chuck) Simmons; five sons: Josh (Helen) Eggert, Chris (Jennifer) Eggert, Richard (O'ting) Straus, Eric (Charlotte) Straus, and Bill (Chris) Straus; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Val Eggert. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard Eggert; and his son, Paul Eggert, II.
A Celebration of Life for Paul will take place in the fall of 2025, with details to be shared at a later date. Paul will be laid to rest at Lake Forest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Faith Hospice.

Paul, my neighbor, loved it when I would bring over a jar of my homemade strawberry jam. He really enjoyed listening to me play the piano. I will miss his smile and joy When I gave him the jam!
