Janet Overlee Obituary

Janet Marie Overlee

1945-2024

Janet Marie Overlee, 79, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many passed away peacefully Saturday, November 9, 2024, in Grand Rapids, MN.

Janet was born October 16, 1945, to Hattie and Ellsworth Meier in Roseau MN. Janet's life was a testament to love and devotion. She lived on the Meier Century Farm and attended school in Badger, MN where she met her lifelong sweetheart in kindergarten with whom she formed a bond that would last a lifetime. After graduating High School in 1963, Janet went to Minneapolis to study and earned her lab/x-ray tech degree, which would later mature into a nursing certification. In her career she spent nearly three decades of serving and caring for others in the Grand Rapids Clinic.

Janet married that kindergarten sweetheart Earl, September 23, 1972, and within a few years moved to Grand Rapids MN where they still reside. Janet was most proud of her family and her faith. She loved going on trips with Earl, they visited Niagara Falls, Hawaii, Alaska and every point in between. If she wasn't traveling with Earl, she was on an adventure with her mom Hattie and Aunt Philamay. Her heart swelled with pride watching her grandkids at their baseball, volleyball, basketball, lacrosse or softball games and attending their band concerts.

Alongside Earl, Janet helped run their resort on Prairie Lake for 20 plus years, where she brought joy and comfort to all their many guests during that time. She found solace in nature, enjoying fishing with Earl either on the ice or in a boat, spending much of their limited free time chasing crappies for a fish fry or northerns for pickling, bird watching and tending to her vegetable and many flower gardens. Family gatherings were treasured moments for Janet, where she radiated warmth and love, leaving an everlasting imprint on all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Hattie and Ellsworth Meier.

Janet is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Earl Overlee, and their loving children, David (Deb) Overlee of Cohasset and Nikki (Todd) LaPlant of Grand Rapids. Her pride and joy are her cherished grandchildren: Emma (Blake), Erik, Jake, Kelsi, Drew (Megan) Braya, and Colby-as well as her two beloved great-granddaughters, Averi and Sadie; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She leaves behind a community of family members, friends, and acquaintances who were touched by her kindness and grace.

A memorial service will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2024, at Rowe Funeral Home, 510 NW First Ave., Grand Rapids, MN 55744 with a visitation one hour prior at the funeral home. Funeral Home and Crematory
