Walter "Wally" Frank Glatz
1943-2024
Walter "Wally" Frank Glatz, age 80, of Grand Rapids, MN and formerly of International Falls, MN passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Grand Village in Grand Rapids, MN.
Wally was born in 1943 in Virginia, MN to Walter and Thilda Glatz. He graduated from Virginia High School in 1961 and earned his associates of arts degree from Virginia Jr. College in Virginia, MN. Also, he attended college at the University of Minnesota and graduated from the Minnesota School of Business. He was united in marriage to Rebecca Firman on August 28, 1965 at First Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, MN. Wally was employed with Mando Paper Company in Minneapolis, MN and when Boise Cascade took over he was transferred to International Falls, MN. Wally and Becky made their home in International Falls prior to moving to Grand Rapids 11 years ago. Wally loved his model trains, was an avid fisherman, loved hunting, and woodworking.
Wally is preceded in death by his parents; half-sister, Dorothy Ann (Frank) Braun; and a nephew, Tom Braun. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Becky; daughter, Theresa "Terri" Metcalf of Hampstead, MD; son, Brian (Teresa) Glatz of Bemidji, MN; grandchildren, Megan (Travis) Klein, Alex Metcalf, and Nick Metcalf; and two great grandchildren, Brynlee Klein and Briggs Klein.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 11 AM at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, MN, followed by a memorial service at 12 PM. Rev. Jason Schiller will officiate. Burial will be at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN at a later date.
