Brock Stokke Obituary

Brock Stokke, 26, died from injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash Sunday, Aug. 5, south of Great Falls.

His funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Great Falls. A graveside service and interment is 11 a.m. Saturday at Roscoe Cemetery in Roscoe. Croxford Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Brock Stokke, our beloved son, brother and friend was loved by all who had the opportunity to know him. Brock lived life to the fullest, sharing his dreams and fun loving nature with anyone and everyone. From the very beginning, Brock was an adventurer - he didn't just learn to walk, he learned to run! Born Oct. 14, 1985, to Pete and Athlene Stokke, he grew up in the Sun River Valley enjoying the freedom of living on the farm; you could always find him playing outside, whether he was fishing, playing in the dirt or hunting. If it involved the outdoors and people, Brock would make it fun!

Brock attended school at Vaughn Elementary, where he was well-liked by peers, parents and teachers alike. He was always active and creative, enjoying sports and any outdoor games he could dream up. Brock especially loved soccer, hunting and skiing. He continued to pursue his passions while attending C.M. Russell High School, graduating in 2004. Beginning high school small in stature, but big in heart and enthusiasm, he played varsity soccer and lettered every year.

At the age of 13, he drew the first of three coveted Highwood bull elk tags. Bagging that once-in-a-lifetime trophy bull was just the start of many hunting adventures to come. For Brock, it wasn't just about the hunt - it was about being out in nature and sharing it with others.

When it came to skiing, Brock was a natural and skied for the Showdown race team in his youth. He was admired for his talented and exuberant style. He loved skiing with his family and friends anywhere and at anytime, but he always had a special love for shredding the pow' on the mountain where he learned to ski. Brock's fashion personality extended to the ski hill where he was known for his "bright" goggles and "flashy" attire.

After high school, Brock attended Montana State University at Bozeman for one year, followed by several years working construction in that area. While living in Bozeman, he formed lasting friendships and made a positive impact on everyone he met. His roommates, Hank, Sam and Eric, became his family away from home. It was at this time that Brock truly blossomed into the amazingly eclectic individual he was.

In 2009, Brock returned home to Vaughn to begin managing the family business, Stokke Concrete Cutting. Brock admired his parents' work ethic and ability to build their company and was proud to carry on its good reputation. Brock used his people skills and vision to help establish his future with the business. Brock's future potential was unlimited, and we have lost a valuable member of our society.

Brock loved his family deeply and knew that he was loved in return. He spoke openly of his deep appreciation for the wonderful life his parents provided him. He loved nothing more than to hang out with his family and close friends, swap stories, eat his mom's good home cookin' (which he adored), play games and make memories. He was the fun Uncle Brock! Brockster never worried about the details, he just made sure that things were fun - no matter what the occasion; life was to be celebrated! Brock was so appreciative of the simple things: family holidays, Christmas tree lights, candy, funky dance moves, a sweet pair of sunglasses and shoes and the beauty of nature. His passion for crazy shoes, sunglasses and clothing drove his parents crazy and was the topic of many family jokes! The UPS drivers had a direct route to the Stokke residence, delivering Brock's weekly pair of shoes and sunglasses!

A genuine, big-hearted, free-spirited, kid-at-heart dreamer who touched so many lives, Brock was a special person who had the ability to bond with others and celebrate their successes and happiness, always with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. Brock loved people and was hugely compassionate toward others, especially the disadvantaged and less fortunate. From the time he was a little boy, Brock befriended the underdog and was willing to share whatever he had.

Brock is survived by his parents, Pete and Athlene Stokke of Vaughn; and his siblings, Steve (Suzette) of Belgrade, Sara (Jesse) of Billings and Kirstin (Geoff) of Belgrade. Brock is also survived by his very special nephews and nieces, Jacob, Paige and Hanna Stokke and Kaden Gamette, all of Belgrade; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ivan (Bob) and Florence (Forward) Bishop and Sam and Mildred (Reinke) Stokke.

Dear Brock, we adore you; we love you more than you could ever know. Our son grew up to be a man we were proud of, and our little brother grew to be our best friend and buddy, who we always looked forward to seeing and spending time with. We will forever cherish our shared memories, as well as special individual moments with you. We have been blessed to have shared your adventure with you; it is impossible to express in writing all the ways that you touched our lives and hearts.

Donations in Brock's memory may be made to Eagle Mount Ski Program, PO Box 2866, Great Falls, MT 59403.

Condolences may be posted online at www.croxfordfuneralhome.com and/or www.gftribune.com/obituaries.

To the Stokke family,
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Brock's passing. I have such fond memories of him as a little kid playing on the same soccer team as my brother. He was always so sweet and kind and just good tempered. He had the ability to put a smile on your face regardless the situation or circumstance. Your family will be in my prayers. My deepest and heartfelt condolences. The world is a little less friendly and a little more cold without him...

What a wonderful tribute to a wonderful man. i was going to attend the service, untill i got there and there was not a place to park in all of downtown. The line of people wanting/waiting to see if they could get a seat was so amazing! i said a prayer as i passed and went to Mass in Brocks honor, but nothing like the showing at his service. I first met Brock freshman year when I was a care-free college student. During that first year, we made a close-knit circle of friends, Brock being one of them. I can honestly say that so many of my fondest memories include Brock. A novel could be written with all the good times, and cherished moments had. We went through everything together, the passing and failing of classes, fun times on nights we should have been studying, creating bonds, not knowing how important each moment truly was. We continued to stick together, becoming grown-ups, getting married and finding “real” jobs. The friendship we had didn't just pass us by, it stuck. Brock's smile, laughter, live-life to the fullest attitude will be missed tremendously. The Stokke family raised a wonderful son that touched so many lives. My heartfelt condolences to all of his family and friends.

When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Gone, but never forgotten.

Brock was one of the best people I know. He was so genuine in everything he said or did. You could always feel safe to act yourself around Brock and that's how you knew he was a great friend and an amazing person. He was one of my very first "life-long" friends. The best friendships are those that take very little to maintain. I knew no matter how long it had been since we last saw each other we could pick up right where we left off. I am so grateful that Brock made the time to make it to my wedding recently. It wouldn't have been the same without him there. I'm so sorry for the loss his family has suffered. We will miss him.

I've had the honor and privilege of getting to know Brock over the past three years and am proud to say that the impact he had on my life has been profound. I liked Brock from the first day I met him and from that point we shared many experiences together. Whether it be a ski trip, coyote hunt, camping outing, or just riding with Brock while listening to him paint the stories of his dreams, I always felt inspired, I always laughed, and those moments will forever be etched in my memory. Brock had his own gravitational field; people (myself included) were naturally drawn to him; fun would be had and laughter would abound. The opportunity of spending time with Brock was and will forever be cherished.

Brock exuded a profound sense of genuine "goodness”; an eclectic mix of compassion, old fashioned morals and ethics, a little bit of country redneck, a lot of skim bum, a love of his people, and a man whose dreams stretched into the cosmos. He had an incredibly creative mind and saw things from perspectives that most don't. Brock would often segue his aspirations with “I know you're going to think this is totally crazy, and it probably is….but…..” We would then spend the next hour or the duration of our drive discussing his vision. It wouldn't take long and I'd be dreaming right along with him and together we'd develop an entire plan of action.

The saying might be cliché, but for those who knew Brock, no explanation was necessary, for those who didn't know him, no explanation was possible. This was Brock, a masterful blend of so many traits and good qualities that describing him is an impossible task.

By God's grace I got to know Brock and by God's grace I, along with all who knew him, will be able to live through his premature passing. I love you Brock, you will forever be in my heart.

It seems like yesterday we were trekking to the ole' fishing hole behind our house, me trying to fit in with the boys in a very Montana way. Brock was mine, and my brothers 1st friend in Montana. Time escapes us like sand through our fingers and life passed so quickly. We lost touch as some childhood friends do, and meet up again not too long ago. Had a few drinks and laughed about the days we spent together and caught up as best as we could for the years we spent apart. What seemed like 5 minutes was 5 hours of unforgettable company, conversation, and laughter in that old garage, in that old pick up truck. I am so thankful for every moment we spent together, I know your still around in ways unseen but deeply felt. I will always love you Brock, there has always been a place in my heart for you... until we meet again.

My deepest condolences go to the Stokke family, you raised a truly great man.

So sad, I first met Brock a few years back, shortly after he and his father started working on a couple of the jobs on base we shared so many laughs over those few years. I can remember one day as we stood in my office cold as can be snowing like crazy waiting for his dad to arrive when out of now where this truck come barreling down the road with a massive rooster tail of snow behind it, Brock put his hands over his face and started laughing said well dads here!

There certainly wasn't a time when he didn't crack a joke or have a smile on his face. I'm still in shock of his passing, he lived life to the fullest and touched everyone that he come in contact with, he will surely be missed and never forgotten! I'm very fortunate to have been able to get to know Brock he was a great man, dedicated to his family and friends, and took great pride in his work.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Stokke family during this very difficult time, the good Lord must have a plan for Brock in Heaven. Rest in Peace bud!
