Karen Lynn (Schottey) Koenig

SAN DIEGO —Karen Lynn (Schottey) Koenig, 48, passed away September 16, 2015 in San Diego, CA, surrounded by her family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Karen was born on March 15, 1967, in St. Louis, Missouri to Richard and Charlene (Rickman) Schottey. She moved with her family, at age 2, to Great Falls, Montana. She was active in gymnastics as a child. She attended schools here, graduating from Great Falls High School in 1985. She attended MSU for three years, majoring in Electrical Engineering, but earning her degree in Pharmacy from the University of Montana. The day after graduation she moved to San Diego, California, living there for the remainder of her life.

Karen was married to John Koenig in February of 2000, they divorced in 2012. November of 2001 she gave birth to the love of her life, daughter Katy Lynn Koenig. While in San Diego she found her passion, working as a compounding pharmacist. She loved crafting, making gifts for weddings and new babies, belting out a karaoke tune, football, and attending Katy's activities. She also enjoyed three hour phone calls with her family.

Karen was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, managing this disease well for 35 years. She also dealt with problems typical of a life-time battling this disease. That struggle ended on September 16, 2015 with her perfect healing in Heaven.

She is survived by her parents, Richard and Charlene; her daughter Katy; mother-in-law Barbara Bennett; sister Kristen (Kevin) Jacobsen of Great Falls; brother Kevin Schottey of Missoula; nephew Reilly Jacobsen and niece Molly Jacobsen both of Great Falls; loving aunts; uncles; cousins; and dear friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Leota and Bill Rickman; paternal grandparents Doris and John Schottey; and an uncle, David Schottey.

Memorials in Karen's name may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Peace Lutheran Church.
