Gary Maes Obituary

Gary Maes

Green Bay - Gary R. Maes, 50, was called to rest after a courageous battle with cardiac Amyloidosis on Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on October 18, 1968, in Green Bay to the late John and Jeanne (Vanden Busch) Maes. Gary was a graduate of Green Bay East High School class of '87. While working at Furniture Row, Gary met the love of his life, Michelle Gontko. Though they lived in Illinois at the time, they were married in Green Bay on Oct. 17, 2009 at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church. After moving back to Green Bay, he also worked at WG&R and more recently as an Assistant Manager for Menards. Gary loved hosting parties and entertaining friends and family. He was a Packers season ticket holder and enjoyed going up to his cabin and road trips in general. Above everything else Gary was a loving husband and dedicated family man.

Gary will be deeply missed by his wife, Michelle; five siblings, Tim (Donna) Maes, Dave (Terri) Maes, Cheryl (Steve) Otten, Pam (Lee) Martin and Randy Maes; three godchildren, Jennifer Schroeder, Adam Otten and Cierra Maes; parents-in-law, William and Judith Gontko; brother-in-law, Mike (Carol) Gontko; godfather, Tom Maes; and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Maes, an infant sister and his godmother, Gail Maes.

Visitation will be at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018, with a Parish Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 645 S. Irwin Ave., from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Anthony Cirignani O.F.M. officiating. Online condolences may be expressed at www.Prokowall.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Amyloidosis Foundation.

Gary's family would like to thank the incredible staffs of Mayo Clinic (Rochester), Bellin Memorial Hospital, Green Bay Health Services and Judith Gontko for their amazing care and support. They would also like to thank Community Benefit Tree, all the volunteers and the entire Green Bay community for their assistance with Gary's Celebration of Life.
