Huben, Robert B.

Robert B. Huben, 82, Howard, died on January 9, 2015 at Unity Hospice in Ledgeview. The son of Ben and Evelyn (Stordeur) Huben, he was born July 7, 1932 in Howard. Bob graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1950. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army as a court reporter. After his honorable discharge Bob attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison graduating with a Bachelor's Degree. Throughout his career Bob continued his education earning several Masters Degrees.

Bob enjoyed a teaching career which began at Oconto High School in 1959. In 1962 Bob returned to his alma mater, West High School where he taught history, political science and social studies until retiring in 1991.

Throughout his life, Bob gave generously of his time to his students. He was an avid fan and supporter of the athletic programs at West High School and the UW-Madison where Bob was particularly proud of his association with Barry Alvarez. Additionally, Bob was involved in the Forensics program at West High School and served as a judge at regional competitions.

In his earlier years, Bob enjoyed playing golf and felt privileged to have attended several U.S. Opens at Augusta. Bob was a member of many professional and community organizations. He often expressed his appreciation of his membership and friends in the Howard-Suamico Optimist Club. He was a proud lifetime member of Optimist International and he was recognized for his outstanding service, loyalty and devotion.

Bob spent the past 7 years as a resident of Renaissance Assisted Living in De Pere where he made many friends. He particularly appreciated the many visits from family and friends.

Bob is survived by his sisters, Florence Rentmeester and Marian VanEnkevort, and brother-in-law George Ambrosius. He is further survived by nieces and nephews and special cousin, Patrick Stordeur.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Doris Ambrosius and Patricia Knaus; brothers-in-law, Harold Rentmeester; Clayton VanEnkevort and former brother-in-law, Merle Knaus.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to fund a scholarship in Robert Huben's name for higher education at Green Bay West High School.

Family and friends may call at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2561 Glendale Ave., Howard, on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. John Bergstadt officiating. Online condolences welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com

The family would like to thank Barb Spang for her loving care over the years; Mindy Chervenka and the staff at The Renaissance for their kindness; Visiting angel Robin; Unity Hospice, Laura B., Chris Deb J. and the staff at the Jack and Engrid Meng residence for the loving support at the end of Bob's journey.

I offer my sympathy for Bob. He was one of my favorite cousins growing up. We were to go to UW-Whitewater as soon as I graduated, but he was called to service before that happened. Will miss service as we live in Florida
