Ruth Duncan Obituary

SPRING VALLEY — Ruth Jane (Pierce) Duncan passed away Nov. 19, 2014 in Arizona. She was born Feb. 17, 1920 between Spring Valley and Bellbrook. Preceded in death by her husband, James F. Duncan Sr., April 7, 1993 at the age of 72, they were married for 54 years. Ruth was the last remaining of 14 children of Robert Elmo and Margaret (Cameron) Pierce. She is survived by a son, James F. Duncan Jr., with whom she made her home in Arizona, also three grandchildren, James C. (Lisa) Duncan of Ash Fork, Ariz., Judy (Gabe) Martinez and Jennifer Duncan, all of Chicago, Illinois, four great-grandchildren and several step grandchildren. Ruth's many accomplishments in life were; member of the National Geographic Society for 50 years, Order of the Easter Start, Defiance, Mo., Scottish Site of Women's Club of St. Louis, Mo., American War Mothers, also a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, member of the Women's Auxiliary M.O.C.A. of Defiance, Mo. Ruth had 3,000 hours in volunteer work at the Veteran Hospital at Jefferson Barracks and also nursing homes in Missouri and Ohio. She was past Grand President of Missouri in the Military Order of the Cootie, Post President of the Ladies Aux.VFW in Ohio and St. Louis, Mo. She held many other offices in both State and Supreme. Ruth held office of the Pow-Wow, which are in five states, SD, KS, IA, MO and NE. She worked with the blood banks and had donated 8 gallons of blood. She worked at Kolhler Aircraft in Dayton, Ohio and was also secretary of the union there. She also belonged to the Yarapai Cowbelles of Arizona. Services are pending.
