Cecil Ball, 83, originally from Greene County, went to be with Jesus Wednesday at the Holston Valley Medical Center.
He retired after 30 years of service from Tennessee Eastman.
He was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church since 1967, having served in the bus ministry for 20 plus years.
He was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a lifetime charter member of the Gray Volunteer Fire Dept., and served as an assistant and a Scout Master for Troup No. 240 in Gray.
He is survived by his three children: Richard and Sheila R. Ball, Rebecca Ball, and Roger and Sheila L. Ball; grandchildren: Kurt and Angelika Taylor, Tyler and Rachel Ball, Emily and Ben Harr, Connor Godsey, Faith and Dalton Balthazr, Abagail and Joshua Medlin, and Cecilia Godsey; and great-grandchildren: Eli Medlin, Asa Ball, Aiden Medlin, Beatrice Ball, Zayne Balthazr, Ezra Ball, Sabrina Ball, and Annalee Medlin.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years: Shirley Ball; his parents: Floyd and Arvetta Ball; a sister: Phyllis Ball; and two brothers: Walter Theron Ball and Floyd Franklin Ball Jr.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, Afton chapel and from 12:30-1 p.m. Saturday at Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church in Gray, TN. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church with Pastor John Herdman officiating.
The burial will follow in Washington County Memory Gardens.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

Our family lived across the street from the Balls and I went to school with Richie and Becky. I have fond memories of Cecil and the family.
