KINGSPORT - William Kennedy Doane Jr., 82 of Chuckey, passed away May 6 after a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 2, 1940, in Kingsport, to William Kennedy Doane Sr. and Eleanor Carty Doane.
Ken as he was known to many, moved to Chuckey in 1987. He was a pharmacist for more than 40 years and worked at Holston Valley Medical Center, Mountain States Health Alliance in Johnson City, and several pharmacies in Kingsport, Greeneville, and South West Virginia,.
Ken had a love for most anything that had wheels having owned several sports cars, trucks, and motorcycles. He also loved boating, spending most of his summers growing up and as an adult on Patrick Henry Lake.
He enjoyed his animals and owned several horses, ostrich, and emu.
He had a gift for gab and rarely met a stranger.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws: Woodrow and Laverne Bachelor; a brother-in-law: Shelby Mixon; and a sister-in-law: Brenda Doane.
Ken is survived by his wife: Beryl Doane; his children: Kenny Doane of Chuckey, Jennifer Doane (Steve Lett) of Knoxville, and Jeff Doane of Tusculum; a brother: Lynn Doane of Kingsport; a sister-in-law: Judith Mixon of Coldwater, Mississippi; a grandson: Lane Doane of Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send donations to the American Cancer Society.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Carter Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport, with Dr. Randy Frye officiating. A visitation will follow the memorial service.
