Allan Caveness Obituary

GREENSBORO "Joe" Allan Wesley Caveness, 65, passed away on November 30, 2016 at Whitestone Wellness & Care Center. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Bob Voorhees officiating. Joe worked at 3M, was owner of Technical Systems of the Carolinas and was later employed at Forbis & Dick Funeral Service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alene and Lynn Caveness, and in-laws, Keezer and Charlie Hussey. He is survived by his wife Jean Caveness; brother, Barry Caveness (Daphne); nephew, Matthew Caveness (Tina); their son, Dane; niece, Christine DeFilippo and her daughters, Jordan, Camron and Remy. Joe, as of 11.26.2016, has one foot in Heaven...being held in the arms of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. He loved the Lord, the Church, and all the church families. He loved his family and friends. He loved to help people. His many traumatic brain injuries are currently affecting all of his body and mind. The wreck is now showing up with much distress, especially the head-on collision with a Mack truck at 60 mph in January of 1987. His body was broken in this wreck, from his head to his feet..he died three times and is a miracle to have come "home" for a long while. He had a very real angelic experience, when he was at death's doorstep, during this wreck and recovery. Our spiritual lives were strengthened, and we have come to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and mind.Joe and Jean met on a blind date to play golf in 1976. Jean took her ten-month old Corgi, Zeus: it was love at first sight. We were married that same year, and Peaches, Joe's German shepherd, and Zeus went with us on the honeymoon to Canada.Joe was a A+++golfer. He could "toast" a one iron. Joe won golf trophies at NC State golf team, Sedgefield Country Club, and Surf Golf Course (SC). He had two hole in ones, both at Sedgefield ... the par three holes. There was one on the front nine and one on the back nine. He could have been/should have been a golf pro! We loved to play golf....all over the world!!!Joe also loves his NC State Wolfpack, his alma matter. We enjoyed the football games and the fun tailgating ....with the "Big Chill" gang and more friends. All of his friends knew and loved him for his "dry wit." He is running with the Wolfpack forever...sitting on the 40 yard line at State..even in Wolf Spirit! Our travels were many....especially the European trip in 1989, after Joe's head on collision with the Mack truck. Joe so enjoyed the wine, the food, and the girls on the riverbanks of the Rhine River, where we took daily boat trips in Switzerland to tiny small villages (use your imagination). He has climbed a huge mountain for a long time. The huge human journey is now over. I expect Joe would be asking if he could talk, "which way to the nearest golf course? I have my 'sticks.'"Written with 40 years of love, your wife, Jean. Love from all of our 50-plus pets including now, Charlie (border collie), Callie (calico kitty), and Trixie (his special tuxedo kitty we found on Holly Ridge Golf Course when she was three weeks old).Joe, even in spirit, I will bring my "sticks" and we play golf wherever you want to play, "my Dear"....Jean.Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405 or to Westover Church, 505 Muirs Chapel Rd., Greensboro, NC 27410.Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel is assisting the Caveness family and online condolences may be made at www.forbisanddick.com.
