Iris Jane Hope Darnell Gray, 93, of Kernersville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Summerstone Health and Rehab. She was born on August 24, 1931, in Stokes County, NC, to the late Elmer and Alice Boles Darnell. Iris was a homemaker and a childcare provider. She was a long-time member of Trinity Church. Iris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, who will be missed by so many. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Gray; son, David Gray; three sisters; and one brother. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Brian Gray (Deborah); daughter, Julie Dawes; daughter-in-law, Maggie Gray; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Monday, October 21, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel, with Rev. Edward Gray and Rev. Nathanael Putnam officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., prior to the service. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church Cemetery.
