Roger Kent Elliott, 90, died August 19, 2025, at Friends Homes West in Greensboro, NC, surrounded by his family. The son of John and Frances Elliott, Roger was born January 17, 1935, in Denver, Colo. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College, Union Presbyterian Seminary (Union Theological Seminary) and Florida State University. Roger met Jane Karicofe from Afton, Va., while in college, and Aug 31 would have marked their 68th wedding anniversary. Roger and Jane had two sons, Ken and Tim. Roger served as a Presbyterian minister in Virginia before the young family moved to Tallahassee, Fla. for Roger to attend Florida State University for his Masters of Fine Art. Afterwards, they returned to Virginia where Roger taught art for the rest of his career at Central Virginia Community College in Lynchburg.
Roger was a man of great faith, immense talent, and unwavering devotion to family. He was a master of puns and trompe-l'oeil-style painting, with a keen artist's eye, unbounded creativity, and quiet strength.
In retirement, Roger and Jane attended the church where they were married, Rockfish Presbyterian Church in Nellysford, Va., before moving to Friends Homes West in Greensboro, NC, in 2022.
Roger was predeceased by his parents and brother, Don; and is survived by his loving wife, Jane; brother, Doug (Marty); sons, Ken Elliott (Mary Ben Roach) of Greensboro, NC, and Tim Elliott (Ellis) of West Palm Beach, Fla.,; grandchildren, Nelson Elliott (Kasey), Katie Baity (Sean), Minnie Elliott (Patrick Wilson), Austin Elliott (Christene Seda), Wesley Elliott, Julian Elliott; step-grandchildren, Julia Locklear (Nolan), Will Roach (Mary Kathryn Bruning), and Sarah Masters (Tim), Jon David, Pryor, and Timothy Stroud; and ten great-grandchildren.
A service will be held in the West Living Room at Friends Homes West at 11 a.m., Friday, August 22nd, 6100 W. Friendly Avenue, Greensboro. Funeral arrangements provided by Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel, https://www.forbisanddick.com/
