Sally Hart Adams
January 1, 1936 - June 12, 2025
On June 12, Sally Hart Adams, fondly known as "Cecil's bride" and "Mama-Doo" to her family, went to heaven to join her husband and love of her life of 66 years. She was surrounded by her three children.
She was born an identical twin at West Point, NY, on January 1, 1936 to General Charles Edward Hart and Virginia Hereford Hart. She loved her twin sister, Susie, and older sister, Byrdie, very much. She grew up as an army child living in numerous cities throughout the United States and Europe. Sally was a skilled equestrian, avid swimmer, and talented artist who loved to paint with oils. She attended the University of Maryland with a concentration in Art and was a member of Tri Delta Sorority.,
Sally met and fell in love with her husband, Cecil, while he was an aide-de-camp to her father. They were married in Colorado Springs, CO, on December 27, 1958, beginning her life as a devoted army wife. They moved assignments an average of every two years throughout the US and Europe. She loved making each place feel like home, and especially enjoyed the entertaining, and the opportunity to travel. She raised three devoted children and "held down the fort" while Cecil was in the field or deployed. She embraced her role and thrived in it. She was an amazing Army wife and mother.
Sally also became a talented seamstress and ragdoll maker. She made and gifted her Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy dolls for over 50 years to family, friends, and classrooms of young children. In 1985, they retired and settled in Greensboro, NC. She was active in the Sedgefield community and Investment Club. She enjoyed her workout center and the pool, both teaching and swimming. Sally was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church. The thousands of spring impatiens and fall pansies she planted in her garden brought her so much joy. She made wonderful friends but most of all loved being close to her children and grandchildren who she cherished.
Sally was strong, fierce, and full of love. She was selfless, giving, and always a lady. Her expectations were high for those around her and especially for the people she loved. She valued and established family traditions and gatherings. Thanksgiving with everyone was her favorite, and those memories will always fill her family's hearts. We are so blessed to have had her as our mother and grandmother to our children and their children.
Sally is survived by her children, Susie (Clem), Bo (Jennifer), and EB (Kristin); and her grandchildren, Kellie, Jessie, Kristin, CJ, Cody, Spencer, Ann Brinley, Laci, and Hart; her nine great-grandchildren and a tenth on the way. She is also survived by her twin sister and lifelong best friend, Susie Forman.
The whole family would like to express our loving gratitude and appreciation to EB for all the time and love he poured into mom over the years.
Her life will be celebrated, and she will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. To honor her memory, donations can be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation,
