Samuel Peyton Moorefield, Jr., 95, of Morehead City, N.C., formerly of Burlington, N.C., died Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Carteret Landing, Morehead City.

He was born August 19, 1927, in Guilford, N.C., to Samuel P. Moorefield, Sr. and Zoa Long Moorefield. Prior to retiring and moving to Morehead City, he was the co-owner of Moorefield Florist in Burlington. He is survived by his son, Thomas P. Moorefield and wife, Dianne, of Siler City, N.C.; daughters Patricia M. Gilbert and husband, Durral, of Oak Island, N.C., and Kathryn L. Moorefield of Pine Knolls, N.C.; grandchildren, Rachel Moorefield Hidalgo, Jesse Moorefield, Annie Moorefield, and Sam Moorefield, Mary Catherine Gilbert, and Peyton Gilbert; and great grandchildren, Oscar Hidalgo, Julian Montes, Isabel Vazquez, and Gabriela Vazquez. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Black Moorefield and daughter, Mary Ann Moorefield.

Sam was a loving husband, father, and friend. Using his artistic talents with flowers, he provided many of his friends and customers with joy in times of happiness and sorrow. His family was very fortunate to have his love and support, and he worked his entire life to provide for his family. His stories of golfing, fishing, and growing the famous "Moorefield tomatoes" will be remembered by many.

The family would like to thank the care givers of the memory impairment facility that provided Sam and his family with numerous hours of care, support, and love. Their kindness and assistance during Sam's final year will be remembered fondly.

The family will receive friends at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home, Burlington, on Monday, March 27, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. A service will be held immediately following the visitation in the chapel at Rich and Thompson.

A graveside service will be held at Alamance Memorial Park, Burlington, on Monday, March 27 at 1 p.m.
