Dr. Jake King Holcombe died at Greenville Hospital System on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the age of 87.

Dr. Holcombe is survived by his wife Carolyn B. Holcombe of Liberty, SC, his daughter Renee Holcombe of Easley SC and his grandpoodle, Asher.

Funeral services to honor the life of Dr. Holcombe will be held at 3:00 PM Friday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 2:45 PM prior to the service at the mortuary. A private burial will be held at a later date. Dr. Holcombe's first passion was medicine but he was also well known for his love of nature and animals.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Samaritan Health Clinic, the free medical clinic of Pickens County 303 Dacusville HWY, Easley, SC 29640 or the Greenville Humane Society, a "no kill" animal shelter, 305 Airport Rd. Greenville, SC 29607.

I am so sorry that i did not know Dr. Holcombe had passed. I asked the
Nurse Practitioner about him last Monday and she told me. I should check the obituaries daily. His care was outstanding and I appreciate the care he gave Bill and me. My deepest sympathy to you and Renee.

Dear Mrs. Holcombe and Renee, I just found out today that Jake had passed. He was one of the best doctors ever. So happy for all the wonderful memories of the hikes, skiing, and fall leaf color excursions in the mountains as well as the best medical care for over 40+ years. He will be missed but not forgotten.

My first memory of Jake was around 1959 or '60 when he came into Hugh Bailey Jewelry in Liberty to buy an engagement ring. I think he must have been very new to the community at that time. He became a fine doctor loved by many in Pickens County. He will be missed.
