Stevie "Steve" Swofford was born on January 7, 1936, and went home on August 15, 2012. He died in the arms of Karen Lawing Swofford, his loving wife of 55 years. He was a son of the late James William and Ethel Pearson Swofford.

Steve will be deeply missed by his three children, David Lee Swofford (Karen) of Spartanburg, SC, Timothy "Tim" Mark Swofford of Memphis, TN, and Sharon Swofford Roberts (Robbie) of Charlotte, NC; his seven grandchildren, Lauren Corry (David), Leslie Delaney (Joey), Lindsey Gandy (Bryce), Chase Roberts (Lauren), Sarah Swofford, Chandler Roberts, and Krista Swofford; and his ten great-grandchildren, David, Grant, and Oliver Corry; Carlysle and Callie Delaney; Tucker, Gillian, and Brooks Gandy; and Payton and Sophie Roberts; and a sister, Minnie Lou Hopper of Chesnee, SC. Steve is predeceased by a grandson, Jordan Swofford and brothers, William, Frank, and Tommy Swofford.

Steve was intensely devoted to his family. He invested countless hours in the lives of his family and friends, and they benefit greatly from his legacy. He was a member and deacon of Crossroads Baptist Church and was a man of quiet faith and steady integrity. Steve enjoyed his work in the plastics industry for 52 years, most recently as a Sales Consultant with Piedmont Plastics, and was proud to count many of his clients among his friends.

The family would like to express their gratefulness to the nurses and staff at 5 South, Spartanburg Regional Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.

The family will receive friends at Crossroads Baptist Church, 130 Conway Black Rd., Spartanburg, SC, on Saturday, August 18, 1:30-2:45 p.m. The memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. David Swofford, followed by a graveside service at Shiloh Cemetery, 991 Settle Rd., Inman, SC.

To my cousin Karen & family :

My son Jay & I send our deepest sympathy. I am holding on to all the fond memories of Steve who was my navigator on the many trips that my sister Helen and I took with your family over the years. We always knew we could call him and he would direct us to our destination or to find our way home. Steve was a great servant of God and I know Steve is at peace as God has directed him home. I also want to express gratitude for the assistance with mother and dad during his sickness.
Karen I would loved to have seen the expression on his face as he stepped off the shores of this earth and landed on heaven's shore seeing the face of God and all his family and friends that were there to welcome him to his NEW HOME!
Your cousin in Christ,
Janet

Remembering how Steve enjoyed life!

August 17, 2012

Karen and Family,
Well, you are my family and Steve was my family for all my life. I can't imagine life without Steve. Steve was a true gentleman. He was as steady as a rock and he truley cared about all of us, it wasn't just an act. Steve always took interest in what was going on in our lives. He had time to talk to you and time to listen. My life has benefited so much by knowing Steve. When I remember Steve, I remember happy times and I remember Steve and Karen dancing as they so loved to do at our Felmet gatherings. That is why I included this picture. Steve you will be missed but not for all so long. Thank God we will meet again. I thank God for the verse Steve game me 31 years ago when I was struggling with losing my dad. He just quoted it to me right from memory when he was having a private talk with me.
1Corinthians 13:12
For now we see through a glass, darkly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; but then shall I know, even as also I am known.
I thank God that even though we don't understand the way things happen now, we have a promise that we will understand clearly one day. I love all of you! Happy Homegoing Steve.
Love, Renee
