I had the privilege of working with Bill at First American and under his leadership I had the opportunity to oversee the Retail Banking operations in Albany. He told me that everyone has gifts and flat spots, so abutt the flat spots to form a well rounded team. His advice served me well. I retired a Market President for the largest independent bank in Florida. May God bless Bill and his family.

I worked for and with Bill at First American Bank. He was a great guy. Once I stayed late in our NYC offices and he thoughtfully gave me a lift to the train station in his chauffeured Mercedes to make sure I made the last train. I wrote numerous messages with him, on one occasion sitting beside him for an hour proof reading and discussing a full-page ad he was placing in the New York Times during the BCCI scandal, at the time front page news almost every day; Bill was meeting with District Attorney Robert Morgenthau about BCCI almost weekly, I believe. When we finished, I looked at him and asked, "Bill, is that everything you know? If not, it will be pretty bad." He replied simply, "that's all of it." He once told me that I apologized too much, a sign, I knew, of my insecurity, a comment which positively changed the way saw myself. I helped him on a sensitive matter once, and he never forgot that help, in return helping me later in my career at First American. A solid, decent, gentlemen who I was honored to work for and know. May he RIP.
