Henry Minchin Obituary

Henry R. Minchin, Sr.
Henry Renwick Minchin, Sr., 74, passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2018.
Mr. Minchin was born on February 21, 1943 in Greenwich, Connecticut, son of the late Marion Moffatt Minchin and Edward Howard Minchin. Mr. Minchin attended the University of Miami, subsequently assuming ownership and operation of his family's automobile business, Minchin Buick GMC, Inc., now in operation for over 110 years. The establishment, located in Stamford, Connecticut, has been recognized as the largest volume GMC dealer in Connecticut.
Mr. Minchin previously served on the Buick National Dealer Council and on the Board of Governors of the Greenwich Country Club. He was a member of Greenwich Country Club and Loblolly in Hobe Sound, Florida . Previous club affiliations include the Riverside Yacht Club, Greenwich Skating Club, Palm Beach Polo and Country Club and Palm Beach Yacht Club.
An accomplished equestrian in his youth, Mr. Minchin was the winner of the 1959 ASPCA Alfred B. Maclay trophy, the final competition held at the National Horse Show in Madison Square Garden. He was runner up in the AHSA Medal Final three consecutive years. Mr. Minchin later shared his love of horsemanship with his wife and children during their time spent over the years at Riverview Farm, in Bluemont, Virginia.
Mr. Minchin was a graduate of Greenwich High School, and the fourth generation of his family to call the town of Greenwich his home. Over the years, he pursued active pastimes, including skiing, tennis and boating. He enjoyed a life enriched by his friendships and the love of his family.
Mr. Minchin is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nance Lynch Minchin; his three children, Scott Minchin, Brooke Minchin Garrigan (Matt), and Henry "Hank" Minchin, Jr. (Kate); six grandsons, Matthew Garrigan, Quinn Garrigan, Graham Garrigan, Henry Minchin III, Theodore Minchin, and George Minchin. He also leaves two brothers, Edward Minchin, Jr. and Renwick Minchin, and a sister, Lynn Minchin McAllister.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Church, Greenwich on Saturday, January 13 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greenwich Hospital's Oncology Unit and mailed to
Greenwich Hospital Foundation, 35 River Road, Cos Cob, Connecticut 06807 or online at [email protected].
