John T Queenan MD, 91, died peacefully on September 21, 2024. He was a physician, author, research scientist, and loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and colleague.
John is predeceased by his brother Charles and sister Joan McClellan. John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carrie, sister Jane Steen, son John Jr., daughter Lynne Beauregard and five grandchildren to whom he was devoted. John was born June 4, 1933, in Aurora, IL. His parents were John William and Alice Thomas Queenan. He graduated from Canterbury School in New Milford, CT.
An honors graduate of the University of Notre Dame, he received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. He was an intern in Internal Medicine on the Cornell Division of Bellevue Hospital and completed residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the New York Hospital–Cornell Medical Center.
His pioneering research and work in Rhesus (Rh) disease of pregnancy with amniocentesis, amniotic fluid analysis, intrauterine transfusions, and Rh-immune prophylaxis is recognized internationally. From 1972-1980, he served as Professor and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Louisville, KY. From 1976-87 he chaired the Fetal Monitoring Committee for the FDA. A prolific author, he wrote scientific journal articles, numerous book chapters, and influential textbooks. After which, he continued to speak globally and served as the Deputy Editor of Obstetrics & Gynecology, "the Green Journal", the preeminent scientific publication in the field.
Sparkling eyes, quick wit, a curious world traveler, he will be sorely missed.

I worked with Dr. Queenan in the delivery room at Greenwich Hospital, it was a great professional partnership.when he accepted the position in Louisville, he asked me if I could join him as his scrub nurse , with a home in Greenwich, teen age children and a husband working in NYC, I declined. I had such respect for his integrity , wisdom and humor. Many times over the years l remembered him with respect. I´m 96 now. My condolences to his family, he will be missed
